nets and netting material

Does any one here use the Brodin Ghost net? not from a boat but what do you have as a net when wading? Do to the superior size of the fish i catch, I am in the market for a new net:clown:

I have a rubber net that isn't a brodin ,but its very similar and I like it a lot. Its nice if you fish tandem rigs as the flies don't get caught in the material, its easy to get a big fish out, unlike netting nets which sometimes can tangle the fish in it making it difficult to grab the fish with a good grip, especially for a quick picture. Shop around the price ranges on the brodin type nets vary greatly depending on where you look. Its all the same stuff just certain brands sell at a higher price. I would tell you where I got mine if I knew, I found it in the woods after a high water event a year or so back.

I own the frying pan and the Gallatain both are excellent nets.

The frying pan is more suited for larger fish ( delaware) and the Gallatain is perfect for the smaller waters.

I've had the frying pan net for a few years and nothing has failed.

No rips, holes, or tears.

They are very well made and not heavy on the back.

I'd recommend it.

I have a Brodin "trout" ghost net. I love it..I have caught fish that won't fit in though.....But when they are that big you can just tail them....:)

do you have the ghost net?

If you do, does the fact that it does not lay flat on your back snag brush etc?[/QUOTE]

Yes I have the ghost net no problems when it comes to walking through the woods.

WB the Brodin ghost are nice know several people that have them and they perform well while traveling stream side .. You can if you like purchase a new Brodin basket and attach it to your old net with a kit that they provide. Have seen this done and they look good just a thought.

The frame i have is small and need something bigger. I checked them out at AA. Went to evening hatch and he had one not brodin but thats not important

I just rec'd my 3rd one. absolutley stunning workmanship, and the bag is much lighter than that used by Brodin.
Look at the tailwater. Anything larger isn't necessary.

I went to their site, very nice, It seems that you only can get them from a shop or custom order from them, but cant buy direct from them unless custome ordered?

A lot of fly shops carry these nets.

Getting one won't be a issue.

Wachter Landing Nets - Handmade Landing Nets For Fly Fishing

There are some custome nets "ready to go".
If you want a standard net you email them w/ style, size, net bag info and they email you a PaPal invoice. I'm sure they have std nets in stock. My last custom took less than 2 weeks even w/ wind damaging storms in their area.
Yes, $160 for a net. The Brodin Ghost = $125, and much smaller than the tailwater model I just rec'd. The Ghost (even though smaller) is also much heavier because of the bag material.

The trout i catch aren't worth $125 or $160.

frabil nets..trout size i use is under 20$ i have 4 brodin nets..i love the craftsmanship on them for sure..but that frabil is light as a feather and the bag is also rubber and everything is replaceable as well..those brodins just sit in my closet :(

If I had your money I would by a half dozen. Dont be such a skin flint, spend some of it already.

If you had MY money, you'd be driftin' down the D on an inner tube.

I'm a teacher and a farmer... which one of those is the one that's supposed to be making me rich? :)

Rugby uses a ghost net, he is happy with it. He replaced his net basket with the brodin basket. At the fly show I bought a rubber net from Flyshack.com for $35. It's larger than the brodin & cost much less. As stated above, rubber nets are great for fishing a dropper setup.

Recently I Was looking for a net with a longer than average handle and big bow. I found a black anodized aluminum net by Ed Cumings that has the exact dimensions as the Brodin ghost Frying Pan float tube for $22. I bought the Brodin large rubber net for $25 on eBay and tied it onto the frame. I got a lighter version of the $147 Brodin for $47. Also I love it. I netted the fish you see on the baxterhouse's fishing report with it. Good luck with whatever net you choose.

I went with a stevens net. Very nice and made in maine. I will post pics when it comes in

I did not get it yet. should be here monday or Tuesday. Weight is the only thing you cant feel when you order online. But I will let you know. I liked the Wachtner nets but this was half the price and I liked the looks. It has the rubber net which it want. I dont believe the marketing about the ghost net. If I'm standing five feet from a fish with my arm up in the air holding my rod and my other arm out holding this thing with a hoop on it I highly doubt its the net bag that scares the fish. As if that is the only thing he sees.

im gonna post a video of burning 4 beautiful hand made brodin nets in my fire pit just cause i feel like it..and because no one listens..too bad if sumone wanted one..there firewood now

Pitbull, your post did not say you were selling them. If i knew I would have contacted you. I really dont mind the weight of a wooden net. Maybe its because I have so much crap in my vest pockets up front it balances me and keeps me from falling in face first:)

thats funny WBD..i never had any issue with weight of a net before either, till i used a frabil. trust me,,i love the beautiful wooden nets..especially the brodins, but the frabil net is just amazingly light..and i use a magnet connection..that frabil is so lite it will NEVER break free from the magnet.

I received my Stevens Net and I am very pleased. It has a ring in both the handle and at the top of the net for securing it either way you like. Nice wood and rubber net, which is what i wanted as I dont like having to dig out my flies with forceps in mesh nets. Now I will try to baptize it this weekend.P5010117.jpgP5010119.jpg

Dude...REALLY!!!!! That is without doubt the gayist handle design ever constructed. I'll bet you can't wait to wrap your hands around that.
