I'm beginning to suspect that the Garden State Trout forum is the one that's over, and it has nothing to do with membership parcipation, and certainly nothing to do with any Beetles.

If he isn't even allowed to update the Fakebook page, the forum will never get reinstalled, and all those worm/spinner guys, that he took off our hands, will be back here.

My youngest brother is still into that stuff.
His current favorite appears to be "mybb".
I have no idea if it's easier/harder to install than phpbb, nor whether or not the database is easily migrated, (My brother's pretty smart vs Tom's getting married), but there's an app/tool for that. As far as i know, it's free. https://mybb.com/

They appear to be very much alive, with a stable release as recent as 01/07/2018.

If by "not supported" he means his webspace provider no longer supports a mysql database, he's going to have a VERY hard time finding a replacement. (Maybe he needs a new webspace provider)

phpbb is alive and well. It would probably take 10 - 15 minutes to transfer the site to a new host that supports the newer versions of phpbb. All of these free bulletin boards are fairly easy to set up. Mybb is probably a 25 second initial install. If moving to mybb, id take a look to see if there is a migration utility. If not, find a new host and transfer the existing database to the new host. That's what I would do.

I'm pretty sure mybb has a transfer utility, but I only mentioned it because my brother prefers it. If Tom's happy with phpbb, why risk having to teach the "forum challenged" how to do stuff all over again?.... Especially if he's having problems finding the time to set something up.
