Our partners at the Musconetcong Watershed Association, with help from TU volunteers and others, have plans to clean up the river and nearby roads this coming Saturday. This will be the 20th such clean up. Here are some details:

Saturday, April 14, 9:00 a.m. – noon 20th Annual MWA Spring River CleanUp
Come out and help at the annual River Spring Clean Up. Each year we count on MWA members,
Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Trout Unlimited members, local residents, environmental clubs and organizations,
religious groups, students of all ages, and community service participants to help pull tons of
trash from local roadsides and stream banks. Afterwards participants gather at noon at the MWA’s
River Resource Center in Asbury for hot dogs and sodas. For more information and starting locations
contact Adrienne at 908-537-7060 or e-mail adrienne@musconetcong.org.

Yours truly will be leading the efforts on the upper river, meeting volunteers at Hackettstown's San Bar Park/Alumni Field which is off Willow Grove (which is off rt. 46/Main Street and the same road the Hackettstown Hospital is on). We meet between 8:30 and 9 am. I need some crews with waders and a pick up truck to hit two "hot spots" nearby. If you can make it, give me a PM, email (BCowden@tu.org), or a call at 201-230-3383 or just show up although I like to have some idea how many to expect. Bring waders and gloves and that's it, we'll have garbage bags galore for the day's clean up. We're typically done by noon or earlier, so bring your rod for the afternoon hatches!!!

Since the river is so very low we should send a few folks to the Upper reaches of Stevens that are usually too swampy to get into during the clean up. There is a fresh batch of tires exposed in the mud, they will still be a pain to get out but we should be able to manage if I bring a tow strap or two. Just hope my back and knees hold up.

Bumping this back up the line. I need 2 good crews, one to clean larger stuff from behind the Cliffdale Inn (Cassia Grill) and the other an island immediately above Stephensburg Road off rt. 57. If anyone wants a good basketball stand and backboard, complete with net (seriously!), then find me early and it's yours for the taking. The ball is even downstream about 30 yards in the woods:)

Starts by 9 am and ends by noon or earlier. Hatches won't come off until well after that, so you even have time for a cold one before ambling off to fish...
