Long Eddy access harrassment

tompg

Flyfisherman
Anyone else get filmed and harassed by the douche bag at the Long Eddy river access on Ferry Street? The regional Park Ranger dispatch number is 570-426-2457. Apparently they are the law enforcement body responsible for maintaining order. I wish I had this with me on Sunday. I suggest calling the ranger dispatch if douche gives you a hard time or threatens to sic his state trooper brother on your ass. I'm sure the brother has better things to do. I'm not sure he really exists.

btw, I was harassed for "parking." I was not parking.

I do find Long Eddy a generally hostile area.

I heard that there was a concrete barrier placed at ramp without notification. Was planning on going down there on Friday. Did you see it?

no concrete barrier but that would not surprise me. There is a oddly placed lawn tractor and trailer. Looks like litter to me. Maybe someone will do him a favor and take out his trash. they really resent the federal land there. Cliven Bundy wannabees.

That’s good to hear. Locals don’t like the fly fishing gang for sure down there. Time to go to Soaring Eagle.

A bit of follow up. I talked to a Ranger from the National Park Service. They're aware of the conflict in the area and would like to do something about but they claim their jurisdiction ends at the water's edge. He encouraged me to call the State Police.

I called the state police in Roscoe. They played it pretty tight to the vest and were not interested in an incident that happened in the past. If you are in Long Eddy, or any place using legal access, and being harassed, they may help you out while the harassing is actually happening. I just wanted to get on with my day and when jerk-wad said he'd call the cops, I encouraged him to do so. Too bad it didn't happen. State Police number for as-it's-happening trouble: (845) 256-3000.

Next I reached out the DEC. They were interested but not terribly familiar. The officer took my story, asked me if I'd be willing to send in a formal complaint and is passing my info to the CO who knows the area. If you need the DEC to protect your rights, call (845) 256-3000. Unfortunately that's a work-hours number.

Apparently on Friday someone did place a concrete barrier of some kind to block the access point. State police did acknowledge their awareness of that. The guys from the crime lab are all over it.

I don't trespass so don't expect to be treated like I am. Stand up for your rights or they will go away.

Thought that was the case. Nothing DEC or anyone else can do about that as I’ve been told the ramp is owned by the town.

So whats the deal down there? Can you still park by the train tracks? I used to park by the tracks, but I don't want some disgruntled yokel messing with my ride home. Parking has slowly been shrinking over the years, whats this guys beef? Do the guides sill park their trailers by the fence? Based on all of the empty bottles I've seen down there, perhaps rolling in with a case of Yaga Sangria and a few extra cats to add to the herd will help smooth the situation out?

Between the 40 of them, they have 10 rotted teeth. I wouldn't trust my car down there. Such a shame because I loved that float.

Be careful with what you leave in your cars (Regardless where you park). Cars are being broken into and... Just last week, a guide with clients was called off the river to talk to the state police about his car being stolen. I felt bad for him and his clients who had to sit in a boat for an hour while he walked up River Road to talk to the troopers for close to an hour. This was Stockport and he was going down to buck at 745pm.

Yea, its my favorite float of all time. That and the Tower Road float. I usually park there and burn some felt humping it up to the top of the Eddy. I've never had problems in the past, but it sounds like the hostility level has increased for some reason. Whats driving this increased level of anger?

Alcohol and low I.Q.

I don't know for a fact, but the boat traffic has built up over the years and now the last two seasons, nobody can wade and all are forced to float. That and there are now tons of "new" boat launches all up and down the rivers, more private boats than ever before, and more guides and guide boats than ever before.

But cingras53 may be correct, it's likely just alcohol and low IQ.

When I started fishing the D, I might have seen 3-4 boats a day. With the internet explosion, Everyone who owns a fly rod also own a boat! :)

on this particular day we saw 2 other fishing boats and few kayaks. With all the folks I've talked to up there, the locals do not like the DEC, the NPS, or people who recreate on the river.

There are more private boats than guide boats these days! But if NY can't keep the reservoirs anything but full or overflowing, then everyone will have to own a boat to fish up there. I've been thinking about it myself because I have places to keep one up there. Of course, by the time I would pull the trigger, we'd see another 9 year near drought and only the wade anglers are into fish. :crap:

It’s kind of asinine on how the residents of Hancock/Long Eddy/Deposit have such hatred towards the fly fishing community.

Our hobby helps boost their small local economy.. we buy gas, food, beer, groceries, fishing supplies, cold cut sandwiches for lunch (witch are god fucking aweful), and etc.

Jobs, even being part time/seasonal jobs are also in demand for the influx of fly fishermen.

If if you read the comments in the post FDUR posted on FB you’ll see that the residents are complaining of fishermen leaving garbage, discarding heroin needles and exposing their genitalia to children.. fucking bullshit! That’s the local residents who are that fucked up and backwards. We as a whole stand for the complete opposite of their complaints!

Also If you are into fly fishing, there is no goddamn way you can afford a drug habit that bad. I rest my case..

It's silly jealousy. They feel trapped in their deadend lives and want what they see others having. I saw this for 3 decades or more in north central PA which used to be full of deer hunting camps. The locals always hated the out of towners even though our camps paid taxes so their kids could go to school and they didn't have to deal with congestion all the time since none of the camp owners lived there year round. It's not fellow fly anglers breaking into cars at the launch sites to steal rods and reels and whatever else they can, it's locals with drug problems doing that theft. Crystal meth is the food of choice throughout parts of the Catskills....and it apparently goes down easily with cheap bottles of hooch.

from the FUDR Facebook thread on this subject, I've found the simpleton who filmed me. This is the guy: https://www.facebook.com/hillriegel

According to Zillow, the house is for sale. If you happen to have FU money, this would be a great place to spend it. I'd offer him 1/2 the asking price due to all the aholes from NJ who can't read that like to visit.

Looks like he can't hold a job, hence why the house if for sale. He was last in Hawthorne, NJ working in heavy equipment only last year. Now he's on a pipeline job somewhere and selling the home I would assume he recently purchased if he moved from NJ to NY recently.

ill sell you mine. Im getting more into synchronized swimming instead of fishing

A while back I was going to sell my Pontoon boat because the drift boat is so much better to float with but at the end of a day of fishing, I think it's much easier to drag your pontoon boat up the bank, deflate, shove into the back of the car than wait in a 10 boat line of other people getting their cars, unloading their boats, and 40 minutes later you have to rush so the other 6 boats behind you aren't inconvenience. Welcome to the upper D.

I think I might sell my Drift boat. It's just not what it used to be.

I took the day off on Tuesday to fish the upper D. I had at least 12 boats pass by me (ON A TUESDAY!!!!).

Pipe down Dcabarle, It will calm down in a month or two, and im sure you will be front and center at the Edison Flyfishing show attending the "fishing the Delaware river system" seminar. Along with all the other Simms shirt, ball cap with sunglasses on top attendees.

Was up there on Monday, lots of boats also. Was amateur hour, half of the boats were floating through where they were supposed to be casting, which is the good part I guess. They leave a lot of fish on the table. I thought about getting a boat for a while, but it just doesn't make sense anymore. I only know one other guy that fishes and I don't get up there enough to justify it. Plus my amateur rowing ass is gonna be bumper-boating the other 5000 boats the entire way down. Also been doing all right wading when flows aren't biblical. This Long-Eddy parking situation is pissing me off though, since that was one of my favorite spots. Maybe I need to go Heisenberg and become their meth Don.

My OnX map says the property on upstream side is owned by Donna Savage and on the downstream side the Delaware Highlands conservancy. It also shows public access but its just a lane going down to the water, no parking area?

Hey... pipe down boob. Wait'l you see the hat I'll be wearing! I ordered it yesterday. When it comes in the mail today, I'll post a picture.

If its a hostile area don't patronize business for a ten mile radius.
gas, food, lodging, ect, that will get the locals screaming for a stop to the harassment

That's a tough one, since there is no business within a ten mile radius.

I actually did synchronized swimming in the lake community I grew up in. Not sure why the need to confess that. Please let me know where to mail my man card, and how much for the boat? And if MAC has ever sat in it, I expect a serious discount in price. Or at least a new gelcoat shot on. We can talk.

Whatever the price on this shipwreck that WBD is trying to sell.. Let me just remind you of the Edmond Fitsgerold and the titantic, both mightier ships.

Whatever the price of WBD's boat, I'll consider selling to you for triple the price since I know it will bring back some fond memories.
