Little Juniata - Where to Fish?

I am planning on fishing the Little Juniata every weekend for the next 6 weeks. I am pleasantly suprised of the proximity of this river system from my home.

Any particular area anyone recomends to hit hatches/nymphing? Tyrone? Spruce Creek?

I was thinking of fishing the Spruce Creek area -- but not sure if I can gain access due to proximity of Spruce Creek prviate property.

Sincerely,

HLR

HLR,

It's been a long time since I've fished the Little J. Fished it back in the late 70's. I spend 95% of my time these days on Upper Delaware waters. Maybe this will help. You can drive the road which parallels the Little J ABOVE its' junction with Spruce Creek. How much is posted there I do not know......but we used to fish many areas there. Perhaps my favorite area was around Barree. Go into Alexandria and look for road to Barree. You'll hit the stream after a few miles. Nice stretch there at the bridge. Go across bridge and make a right. This road has stream access and ends I believe(bear with me...it's been a long time) in a parking/access area. You can walk up trail from there and fish until you would hit the end of the private water stocked for those paying customers. We used to fish from the parking area all the way up to Spruce Creek years back. The Little J always had some real nice browns in it...until the secret was out. From what I here....there are still some good fish there. Now....back to Barree.....when you go across the bridge....you can also bear to your right at the split instead of left. This back road will also parallel the stream and offers some good access. The Barree area was some of my favorite water on the Little J. My roommate from college lived in Alexandria and knew alot about the stream. He now does not bother with it...but fishes Raystown............The Little Juniata in my opinion always had some of the most beautiful colored browns in it I've seen anywhere.........ahh those limestoners......may I suggest throwing some crayfish imitations a bit.........hopes this helps ....................................................sincerely.......comparadun.

ComparaDun --

Thanks for the insight. I have read 3 or 4 books that states that the Tyrone and Barree sections are good places to focus on. I look forward to learning new water as my 'home' waters -- but I still have Delaware in my heart and mind. I will be sure to post pics and details about my future visit.

Sincerely,

HLR
