Lake Placid Beginner Information

Would like some advise. I am in Lake Placid often. Have not done much fishing but would like to try fly fishing in the au sable or other local river. Have a freind that wants to start with me. We plan to hire a guide. Any suggestions on how to get started or what to avoid?

Both the Adirondack Sport Shop and the Hungary Trout fly store have guide services out of Wilmington, but I've never used them so I can't tell you who is better or cheaper. There's also a page that I believe is flyfishtheadirondacks.com that I've heard good things about (I think thats the web adress). Best of luck.
