Help with Indian Grove Brook

thebwproject

Needs a lot of help.
So I am working up around Bernardsville for the next week or so. I saw that Indian Grove Brook was listed as a wild trout stream. This morning I took a drive to check out the stream. Although I did find some possible spots I am unsure of where I should park or gain access from. Can anyone help me out with this, or if there is another close by stream, help me with some information for that? All info is appreciated. Please PM me if you rather not put it in the replies. THANK YOU!

it's been a long time but I found access pretty easy upstream from 24. Is the India really the NBR?

I've fished Indian Grove right near where it enters the upper Passaic. I've managed a few 4-6" wild browns, not really a great stream though. The upper Passaic is right there, a much better stream in my opinion and you would almost certianly have more success. I wouldn't waste my time on Indian Grove, especially this time of year. I park at the Audubon Society just up the road from the confluence of Indian Grove and the Passaic. However, if you're going to fish on the Audubon property you're supposed to let them know first. Good luck.

Indian Grove is mostly on private land and is tough to find the few little public spaces that are NPS land. Look at a good local map for the NPS boundaries. It is pretty small and the fishing isn't great, but on very rare occasions some larger bows move out of the private ponds on the brook.

It's been a while, but the Audubon Society at one time preferred people not to park at the lot on Hard Scrabble Rd and fish. They had problems with the neighbors on both sides of their properties with slob fishermen trespassing without permission and it was a touchy situation. As a result, they prefer fishermen to park inside the gate and fish out of sight from the road so that there are no neighbor issues at all. Also, they allow fly fishing and are cool with fishermen who ask permission, but don't really promote it and don't want people driving by and seeing fishermen bring in more fishermen - especially bait guys. Their property= their rules. I'm good with that.

NJ Audubon only asks that you sign in, but otherwise they allow fishing as others said. That would be on the upper Passaic. There are some other WTS nearby as well. Many are tough to find access.

Here's a Highlands map that shows property boundaries and ownership. Some private parcels that have sold in the past few years might still have the old owner's name as that is not kept up to speed well, but any public land will always be public, so if you find public spots, you know you're good to go.

That's a nice map Rusty.....

I would love to see the Schiff Reservation offer some beat fishing on their relatively recently acquired land that covers the headwaters of the NBR. That would be a nice addition to the local opportunities. As of now, strictly off limits just like it was when controlled by the Raritan Rod and Gun Club.

It solely has to do with trying to be a good neighbor. But they should allow anglers to fish it as they own to the center of the river there.

Tom this guy came from the spot I was telling you about. Enjoy but you have to be stealthy they startle easy.photo.JPG

Dear Baby Wanking Project,

When somebody sends you a private message with information, link to a map with parking info and trail head, specific directions to the best pools, suggestions for flies and how to fish them, it is polite to thank them or at least write something back.

Probably busting your balls, but maybe not,
Oliver

True, but when you tell him "park in downtown Camden near the abandoned gas station and fish the riffs in front of the 3 crack houses whenever it rains hard using a size 3/0 pink and white Clouser minnow", it is perfectly acceptable to not reply with the typical "thank you". At least here on NEFF:) :punk:

Thank you. Thank you very much. I guess the PM reply wasn't enough?

Tom I was not talking about you! I was talking about TheBWProject. I sent him info about a different place and had not heard from him so I was busting balls. He has responded to me now he was busy with work and life.

Thursthouse made a similar point, but several folks who busted my balls about WildTroutStreams.com seem to be happily contributing to this thread. It seems to me that this kind of feedback is much more like "spoon-feeding" than anything on WTS. Why is this OK and WTS not OK? Or have the ball busters decided that WTS is actually OK?

I only see one person who was busting your balls:).....There is a difference with Rusty's map and your website....When you Google wild trout streams, his map doesn't pop-up;)...Let's put it to rest, we disagree, no harm.....;)

Actually Lightenup, you're a gentleman, but I can't resist now busting your balls a little bit. Try opening another tab on your browser and do a Google search on "NJ wild trout streams". You'll find that this forum comes up #4 in the listing, with links to a half dozen or so threads. Rusty's doesn't come up (yet, it's too new), but anyone led to this forum by the Google listing could easily find it then. WildTroutStreams.com doesn't come up until page 3.

So by your own standard, this forum is WAY WORSE than WildTroutStreams.com.
