Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Has anyone hit a legitimate hatch and found fish on them?

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
I've been anxiously awaiting the start of the spring time hatches and have been out a couple times, but have found few bugs and fewer rises despite perfect water temps and otherwise good conditions. This story has been the norm from others I have spoke to as well that have seen EBS but very few to no mayflies and no fish rising consistently and few sporadic fish at that. Has anyone run into a steady hatch this year and found fish on them? Any mayflies? Were these holdover/wild fish or just fresh stockies podded up getting on the bugs? Hell who cares I'd probably take them at this point- just want to fish a dry fly .

Nothing as of yet. Conditions have been crazy. Mornings still in the thirties, high wind, high water.

I've been out 3 times this year and have yet to see a hatch or even so much as sporadic risers. No mayflies just stones and caddis.

I have been out three times in the past week and a half....lots of bugs, caddis everywhere, stones and I have seen a couple Hendricksons...I have seen one rise each time I have fished...they appeared to be chasing emergers as the rises were very abrupt and splashy....fishing deep has been the best producer.....I have tried through the water column, but nothing...only nymphs and caddis emergers fished deep.....Oh, I'm fishing in NJ creeks, the Musky and SBR.....

I stopped at a limestone creek in Va on the way home Monday. The water was off color with low visibility from the rain. The grannons were hatching all over the stream and not a fish on them:down:

Looks like I am the winner so far. I've had at least 3 good Hendrickson dry fly days, two of which were while guiding and one on Sunday while I was fishing both the upper SBR and a nearby unlisted WTS. Before the Hendos, I had two decent dry fly days with spent caddis, both on the SBR. Some wild, some fresh stockers, but mostly holdovers. I have a trip today at noon, so hopefully I see the Hendricksons this afternoon once again.

Best of luck.

Up here (see map) - I think we start seeing heads next week. Afternoons.

No wind is forecast and the afternoon temps will be around 60 for a few days straight which will move water temps into the low 50s by mid afternoon. Plus no heavy rain is forecast in the next 10 days.

31 degrees this morning. Sub freezing tonight and Friday night. Water temps now: low 40s.

Window for the Catskills / Upper Delaware Region for BQ and Hendos: April 27 - May 10

Tight lines,

What time is the action? Anything late afternoon yet? I've only been able to get out once a week, usually Sunday, and I've noticed the best action has been between 1 and 4 pm. Sort of dies down after that.

Forget about it. 29 this morning and they are calling for 26 next two nights. Got about 1/2 of snow overnight.

That's what I'm banking on! My annual trip to the WB Angler is the 30th - 3rd to hit the hendricksons hopefully. Last year we were a few days too early.

So far, the Hendricksons have read the book and start in earnest right around 3 pm and come off until 5ish. We've had enough for spinner falls, but I haven't been out late in the evenings yet. That will probably happen after work tomorrow for me. The caddis have been both early in the day and late in the evenings when they were getting the most action.
