Fresh Water near Toms River

A Polinger

Just finished a River Runs Through it!
I will be moving down to Toms River in the next few weeks. IBSP i know is right there but is there any good fresh water for trout or bass in the area?

The Toms has a TCA on it that holds nice fish. You got the muddy Manasquan River about 15 minutes north. Also theres the two branches of the Metedeconk in the Jackson area. The bay can be fun for blues and stripers when theyre around and the wind is down. As for lakes, I prefer Colliers Mills WMA and Prospertown Lake (if the waters up again) for bass. Heres a list for waters by county. Check out Ocean and Monmouth.

There are lots of lakes in the area that hold Bass. Let me know where you are going to land, I'll point you in the right direction.

If ya don't mind could I get some Directions to the tca from seaside? Don't really know my way around thermos river area

I was just looking into the TCA for Toms River since I live in Browns Mills, 30 mins away....looking at bing maps, doesnt appear to be much access...how do you get to the river? Go to the park and walk through the woods? I'm trying to learn to fly fish for trout and havent had much luck yet.

You won't have much in the way of dry fly fishing on the Toms TCA, but you can nymph and streamer fish. There's precious little room to cast a fly rod, so a roll cast or simply stripping off line using a streamer does the trick.

irish 1,
I teach kayaking on a lake in Medford so I have been having a lot of luck there. I would love to find a place closer, my daughter is 3 and she loves to go so when she is down i want to take her. Any directions would be great. Also if you have a quick way to the Trout Conservation Area that would be great. Please PM me.
Thanks for any help

You can access the Toms TCA by Rt 571 where it crosses the Toms, that is the downstream end of the TCA. Walk upstream on the right side of the river. When you begin to see homes on the opposite bank you'll want to cross over the river. The other alternative is to park in Riverwood Park and walk downstream about 1/4 mile to the upstream limit of the TCA.

Pine lake is near the TCA in Toms River. There also looks like a good lake in Lakehurst (just off 70). For other lakes You'll need to try further inland, Lakewood has a lake in town, Colliers Mill WMA has two. Here's the link to fish and game's listing of lakes in Ocean County. Still not knowing where to start you from, go north on 166 to 571. Just past the 527 light the parking area is on the right.

I fished the toms river tca last week didn't get one hit in 3 hours and only saw one fish rise a few times. The water there is a weird color for a trout stream
