Float Tube Help

Hey,
I've searched this topic, but couldn't find the specific advise I require before spending my money. I'm considering getting a float tube to fish Adirondack ponds. I have a nice pack canoe(#17), but it seems a bit much to carry in if the Pond I'd be fishing is very small. I'm looking at the offerings in Cabella's and wonder if anyone can weigh in on the difference between the U designs and more standard round tubes. I'm not looking to use this thing on any moving water, and like the idea of a 7# boat. Thanks for any help. Frogge.:crap:

I had two of the round type and found them awkward getting in an out of with flippers. I think you'd be better off with the U-boat. Just a matter of personal opinion, of course.:)

I like the pontoon style it's easy to get in and out. I already have a bit of a tube in front of me. and it is easy to maneuver in the wind.It tracks better than a tube too.

The U-kind has an emergency latch so that if an angry beaver bites your tube in half, you can just bust out and swim away. Plus, you have easier hand access to the water and if you are flexible you can adjust your flippers. The safety feature alone makes it worth the U-boat. I like mine!
