Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
Just got back from a couple days up there. With the wind being bad Friday/saturday, I chose to hang back until sunday. Met up with Allen (BHC) and his buddy and had a nice day. We hit a nice hendrickson hatch ,but the fish weren't on them for the first part of the afternoon. We thought this was the first day they really showed up on the water, so maybe the fish were not tuned in to them yet. As the wind calmed, the fish turned on for a short period and we got a little taste of quality dry fly action. Allen took a brown that was super fat like a largemouth bass, and I blew it on a few fish before bailing myself on a nice brownie just before dark. The day ending with fish rising and a heavy hatch left me leaving the river satisfied and optimistic about tomorrow.
Today, I went with my dad to a favorite early season stream and took the canoe with me since the stream is somewhat small. The bugs were very heavy here, and unlike the day before the fish were keyed in. Most pools had many risers, and they were dumb, classic april dry fly fishing. The wind was a little gusty at times, but there were enough calm periods in between to get the fly in there. Only saw a couple other fisherman and had a great day. Drove home this afternoon for class and am jealous my dad will be taking the week off to fish this week. If the wind doesn't get to bad I think it will be good. Here are some pics, and a cool video of fish gulping big time.
