Eye wear Help

fcch

Salmo salar addict
Having hit the 40 this year, I can't wear my contact lenses very much. I therefore need to find a quality pair of clip-ons or flip-ups of polarised shades.

Anyone use something they like ??

I could go with a 2nd pair of glasses ; tinted and polarised, but I KNOW I'll end up losing a pair if I have to start switching back and forth from regular prescription to tinited & polarised.

I have both flip-ups and polarized fit-overs and am not particularly happy with either of them. For fishing I would have to say the fitovers are the best. Kind of bulky and not especially pretty but they are effective.

John,

Thnx,... I have never used either and was affraid of that. I am worried that there is too much reflection fromthe inside out to be efficient. I think fit-overs will be the way to go.

Anyone know of good fit-overs or are the Walmart Specials just as good ??

Thanx John,

I had a look athe their page and that'll probably fit the face. Not much choice as my new son says "your not 20 anymore"

I've used Fitovers for a couple of years now, and am very pleased with them. They do what they are supposed to do. They're a lot cheaper than a pair of prescription varifocal sunglasses.
CAtch a big one.

Chris, I have contacts but since I don't need them to see up close, I actually struggle to tie a fly with glasses or contact lenses on, I opt for two pair of glasses on croakies. One my polarized sun glasses the other my everyday glasses.

I often toss my everyday glasses into a pocket and only put them on when it starts getting dark and the polarized glasses are too dark to see from. Maybe a pain, but I'm not ready for the fitovers just yet...........

C.C. Rider, (my new nickname for you Chris) you wanna hear a funny story? I once had a pair of the "ultimate fly fishing sunglasses" made for me specially. They were Georgio Armani frames, ultra-violet protective, polarized, shatter proff, infared something or other (i'm pretty sure, we're talking 1996/7) and they were tripple decker lenses. Top portion for far away (driving), middle portion for looking down and walking, and bottoms for reading (tying on flies/changing tippett material). They cost between $300 and $400. My eye Doc. is "Bad." He's also a fisherman, spin, saltwater. Guess where they (the glasses) are now? Either still at the bottom of Junction Pool in Roscoe, somewhere downstream of there, or in someone elses posession. LMAO. Boy i sure did look cool for a while there................bout a week. LOL. Easy come easy go. "GREAT!" tune by the way. Two things. "Don't try to be in competition." LOL. And, the Walmart specials are no good for your eyes. Put that outta your mind. Good luck. mark..............

Mark, Glad to hear I'm not alone! I finally got talking into a pair of new "small stylish" glasses this summer. These were transitions trifocals, all the bells and whistles, light as a feather and the better part of $600. Three weeks later, I'm fishing in a run that was fairly fast and at least 3 times deeper and faster than normal summer levels. I'm not paying attention to the Sycamore branch right above my head and catch my last fly just out of reach. I've done this before, point my rod up, using the reel as a grappling hook and gentle pull the branch down. I have the branch in hand, up on tip toes, and the branch breaks! Next thing I know, I'm under water and trying to get to my feet. My hat and magnifiers are gone and I can't see. I'm standing there shaking at the thought of my loss and try to reach bottom to feel for the glasses. The water is to deep to reach bottom by bending at the waist, so I plunge back under and realize that the flow would have washed them away. It's starting to get dark and I'm standing there like a jerk, trying to figure out how to mark the spot for the next day swim and I glance at the branch, still in my left hand. I cannot express the joy, to see my glasses lodged firmly in that branch! That good fortune was my omen to slosh out of the woods for a very wet ride home. jack

Mark,

Don't worry about me trying out for the cover shot on GQ for flyfishermen.

Over the last few seasons, my gear has been renewed with alot of Goretex in it, but it was because the old stuff rotted off of me, not because I wanted to look like a Orvis ad. :)

Well, the main reason i got the trifocals was because i was sick and tired of having to change glasses all the time from sunglasses to something i could use for tying on flies and tippets. Ended up getting the sunglasses with the magnifiers in the bottoms. DUH! LMAO. I seem to go thru about 3 to 5 pair of sunglasses a year though, still. Just keep loosing them. Now i keep it to under $30 a pair, or so. LOL. And i always have a flip focal on my hat. mark..........
