Evening pikes

After setting up for the Green Village Fire Dept. sporting clays shoot for today, I had a couple of hours of daylight left to hit the river for some pikes Saturday evening. I hooked six fish and landed three, all in the 28"-30" range. I did however raise more fish than I could keep track of, but they would just come up and do a quick slash and that was it. I had probably two fish come up that were probably in the mid to upper 30's. Good action for the short time out.
Now off to tweak the targets before the shooting starts at 9:30.

Nice fishing, we don't have pike here but the chain pickerel are giving us some pretty good fishing when we can get to the water, after the ice and snow is gone.

The third photo is awesome. That is one hell of a fly.

That's actually an 8" scaled down version of the 12" streamers I like to throw for pike. It was too windy to throw the big stuff on Saturday evening, so I had to go with something smaller. Rio Outbound Short, the only line for casting big flies for pike. The big pike streamers are really fun to tie, you can get pretty creative with colors and materials.

By the way, the sporting clays shoot went well. We had just over eighty shooters with calming winds, sunny skies and warm temperatures. Everyone got their fill of shooting and food (amazing how much food these folks go through). Their next shoot will be in October.
