I's been quite some time since I have targeted pikes, mostly due to the high water temperatures of the river. However with the few cool nights lately, I decided to take the kayak out for a paddle after dinner last night.
The river is extremely low but has in fact cooled a bit from probably what was close to 80°F, way too hot for stressing pikes. Surprising was that I had no problems with the little Zika/West Nile carriers which usually become a problem as the weather cools.
Fishing was slow with only one take. It was an extremely long, skinny fish of about 30 inches with quite a large head. I don't know if the hot water temperatures had anything to do with the fish being as skinny as it was. However it looked healthy and did fight well for it's heft, or lack there of.
