Delaware River Report

Increasingly crowded rivers are probably a result of an increasingly crowded region. Look at the population growth in the Tri-State area since 1983, and all of the other things that have changed besides trout streams.

.....

Last thing and I'll shut up. Sharing a fishing hole with another guy or two is fine if they're friendly and have good etiquette, even better if they share a pattern or a beer with you. It's when they're sullen a-holes that it ruins the fishing. This site seems to serve as a forum for the first kind of guy rather than the second, providing a place to share tips, photos, etc. What's wrong with that? Gives us a leg up on the jerks...

The first part is well put, now add increased "advertisement" of these rivers to the increased population, and you get overcrowding. Population growth on its own isn't the only problem.

As for one guy helping another out...I can only speak for myself, but I don't have an issue with that. Hell, a lot of what I learned was from guys I met here. I think the lack of discretion when posting a gallery of fish pics about a trip to a certain river is the main concern of some of the guys here.

Who ???

Thats BS.. if you ask me Steve.

I been posting photos of the Smoky streams and the only thing I hear is where is the fish porn ?

Over 4800 posts I think I have posted one of a trout (tail only) that was leaping out of my hand. That was to make a point about photographing fish.. I think???

I don't post photos of fish, some do and that is up to them.

Yes, when they do post fish porn I look.. but I look at the back ground to see where is he..

Even knowing where he was standing and holding a fish.. that is not the first place I head off to when on that river.

Of all people you know that fishing conditions change daily if not hourly, catch one here on this** (sorry can't tell you) fly and next day not even a look-see from a trout.

I don't think it matters one iota how many fish photos you post.. people are going to go if they have the mind to anyway.

Way I see it, seen one fish you seen them all... except ones without a nose.

I have to agree with AK's comments.........TK, your posts aren't going to effect the
volume on the big D very much if at all. I enjoy your reports, just was frustrated seeing the armada floating down the river and the waders every 5 feet in DC's pictures.

Steve we didnt take pictures of every fish we caught. In regards to your comment on the internet. Just remember the very people who first took you fishing up there and graciously showed you the ropes were people who you met on the internet on a fly fishing fourm. When you first learned about the System it was over the internet on a fourm. Its a great river that in my opinion can be shared. When I hear people say dont post about the river on the internet because everyone will go there I laugh. When is the last time you tried to get your friends together to go fishing? Do you remember how hard it is for some to get away for a day just to go fishing? To get the pass from the lady and possibly from their family and other responsibilities?

The delaware hasnt been a secret when I worked in a fly shop twelve years ago people used to come in quite a bit and talk about the Delaware and its great fishing. I even found these three videos on the internet from the DR. Are these ok to post?

I think the large part of the crows this weekend had to do with the Drakes. Think about all the things you have learned from this site maybe its time to give something back to the site. Rather then to post that people need to post less information be vaguer etc.

AK, I don't have any issue with people posting a picture of a trophy fish, or a nicely colored up fish, or ANY fish for that matter...all I'm saying is that if someone posts a gallery of pictures of nice fish and states where they were caught, they'll undoubtedly attract more attention to that particular river.

I like taking pictures, and I also post them here to share with everyone...however, I don't post where they were taken. Yes, I was guilty of doing that when I first joined this site, but I quickly stopped that practice. I like to leave a little bit to the imagination.

Here we go again Wylie...like my original reply I posted to your comments on the other site, the topic is whether or not posting numerous pictures of fish with where they were caught attracts more attention...nothing else. I personally think it does. I already mentioned that I had learned a lot from people I met on here, and again, that's not the topic of discussion. Of course I share information with a select one or two guys that I develop a friendship and trust with...there's a big difference between that, and posting it on the net.

Every person has the right to fish any public river just as much as I do. I wouldn't try to convince anyone otherwise.

As for the videos I put up, I don't name any specific rivers do I? There's a lot of water in the catskills and I could've been anywhere. I don't like putting a bullseye on a particular river.

Yes, I was guilty of doing that when I first joined this site, but I quickly stopped that practice.

Sorta like being a reformed fish porn guy...

You seen the light...

Halleluiah to you brother ! Halleluiah !!!!

Now repent you other NEFF sinners out there....

First, let me say that I would thoroughly enjoy seeing more posts with "by rford" next to them(maybe a little less scary posts, but I'd take even scary ones).

Second, You should all look on the bright side of so many people fishing the D.

1. It's GREAT for the local economies(and you guys KNOW who you are that should not be bitchin').

2. When the Mountain Lions attack you, there will be someone close to:
a. take a photo;
b. stop the bleeding;
c. remember your last words to put on your tombstone; such as
aa. "I told Future there were mountain lions in the Catskills"
bb. "I always hated cats"
cc. "Never thought an overgrown p***y would do me in"

3. The noise of all those guys telling lies while fishing will drown out the sound of the gas well drilling machinery.

4. Think of all the empty space you'll find in the streams you fished before you found the D. They USED to be overcrowded but NOW they are deserted because everyone is fishing the D. Think of the gas money you'll save!

Well, the list is endless...

Its not the number of people..... its the internet. The world's a smaller place now. You can't keep a group "secret" of the greatest trout fishing location on the east coast. 1200 views of this thread. Thats got to be 400 people. No way that TK's report would have been read by 400 people twenty years ago. Al Gore hadn't even invented the internet yet.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't post reports on the internet. I'm just saying that its too late.

Ralph, Good to see you lurking around.

sst, I know where you're coming from. I was having fun posting over the winter about the big breeder stockies I was catching in the BFB. After a dozen posts or so I was seeing more guys in my spots then in the past and less fish. Some spots were fished out completely which I had never seen in the past. I feel it had to be from my threads with pics of the locations I was fishing. Lesson learned. But, our spots are going to be fished harder and harder anyway. I've taken new guys fishing over the years and of course they too will be hitting the spots I showed them and probably going to show a few of their friends those spots as well.

Questions: Should we stop showing our spots to our buddys? Should we stop promoting fly fishing to others? Should we try to kill NEFF so others won't take up the sport and invade our sacred waters? You see newbies join NEFF regularly wanting to get into fly fishing. Do we not respond to their posts so they won't add to the crowds?

Personally I and probably most of the people here, like seeing fishing reports posted. That's the main reason I come here. I enjoy reading about others successes on the water. Probably won't fish their spots, I have enough of my own, so don't worry about me adding to the numbers on the D.

TK, thanks for the report. I enjoyed the read.

AK, would I mock you?

What do you think...should we put an end to NEFF so our sacred fishing locations won't be revealed and over fished?

Speaking of pictures on the net I found this one out there for all to see nice rack of stripers there!!I know a couple of people in the pic and looks like they had a good time!!

Who are those ugly mugs participating in that blood sport? Hopefully, they are not members here at NEFF, cause we are totally against the murdering of any fish...even stripers.

I think those might have been the stripers which run up the WB and eat trout..they deserved it :clown:

Striperdog,

Oddly enough one of those fish killers looks like you. Hard to tell though since I had to turn my head sideways to get a good look.

Where should I float tomorrow?!?!?!? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has a map of the west branch they could PM me in a link that would be sweet also.

Chris go from Fireman's park to Buckingham.... long float....good water. Just make sure you are not guiding, as you would need the proper park service stickers, and the BullS@#t Pa guides license. I have the name and number of a guy who does shuttles as well. Give me a buzz. jz
