Centre Pinning Does Have a Place on the SR

AKSkim

Boston - Title Town USA
Yes, I AK Skim do say

CENTRE PINNING DOES HAVE A PLACE ON THE SALMON RIVER.

Like all types of fishing, centre pinning isn't accepted every where, and is looked down up by many.

We all know that the use of bait and centre pinning up on the Mighty Delaware River is really looked down upon, but on another mighty river in New York State it is gaining some acceptance.

Course that river being the Salmon.

After snagging was outlawed, people needed to substitute with another form of fishing.

Enter Centre Pinning.

Let's just take a moment from our busy lives and look at it from their (centre pinner's) point of view shall we.

You drive 4, 5, 6, and even up to 8 hours to fish the <ST1:pSalmon River for a day or two.

You arrive in town and right off the bat you know you won't have the river to yourself.<O:p</O:p

You scout around for a spot...

People every where, on top of each other..

You always heard of the TOWN POOL and dreamed of fishing it..

but there is no place for you... you feel outted.

CENTRE PINNING.. yes, lad. Centre Pinning!

With a centre pin rod and reel you too can fish the Town Pool from the otherside of the bridge!

Pay no mind to encroaching on others. It is YOU and what YOU want that matters.

They will learn to duck under your line as it speeds down river an eighth mile, quarter mile, even up to a HALF MILE!

Yes, centre pinning is where it is at if you want to catch fish on the <ST1:pSalmon River</ST1:p.

Stop in at the local fly shop and proudly announce your conversion!

I was with you all the way to the last line...i realize fashion is a high priority (some would say the highest) when on the river, but I didn't realize CPers had full claim to an entire class of material.

never been out there...thought "shoulder-to-shoulder" was an exaggeration...those pics make it look like a euphamism. pass.

get the flyfishers out of there and nuke them all, or get some kind of spray and kill them like bugs, or they are going to make a huge damage.

I wonder if it's ok (legal) to cut yourself free from a centerpin line if it threatens your wading safety? Just a thought. Things that make ya go- Hmm?

Yes it's legal and not a problem. You see...CenterPinning was developed by Satan. So when you cut the line, another float, weights, and fly automatically regenerate on the line and the drift continues from where you cut it. Haven't you ever wondered why a Center Pinner hooks a steelhead on every drift?

You got it Lufcus!

A true fly fisherman would never be caught in a mob like that. Does anybody really think those salmon will bite when they are being bombarded with 1000 flys a second. It's more like dodgeball...every now and then you get hit.

I do have to argue the Center Pin argument here for a second. I am a flyfisherman as well as a center pin fisherman. Ok so I'm a fisherman. I will catch fish in any way shape or form that I can. If it means adding a new style of fishing to my aresenal, then I am game. This will be my first year center pinning more than fly fishing. Both have their advantages, and both have their disadvantages. I have caught a lot of fish on my pin and even more on my fly rod. Now, as for fishing the town pool with a center pin. I wouldn't even attempt it during the salmon run. Then again, you wouldn't find me with those hoodlums down there. Maybe a few years back, like way back when I was still green, well a darker shade of green, would you have found me there. I hate crowds, as I'm sure many of you do. Center Pinning can be deadly if you learn how to use it right. If any of you ever make it up to the Salmon River during the steelhead run and after it has quieted down, drop me a line, and I'll take you out in the drift boat and you can give the center pin a try and see how it is. So far, I can't complain at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting down my flyrod for the center pin, just using anothe weapon in my arsenal.

Wow, first week on the board and admitting to being a CP?

Did you see the title FLY FISHING?

Hmmmmm

I haven't been up there in quite a while. The crowds do keep me away, but I do keep hearing the call of the salmon and steelhead. Maybe someday.....

No, when you need to wear snow shoes to get to the spots...

Then you are a Steelhead fishing animal.

Fishing on days like this, you know you're alive then!

just to clarify...i'm not swearing off the SR...really hoping to hit some tribs this fall if I can find the time...but a crowd like that will send me straight to the bar.

ak, winter steelhead=a recurring dream of mine...someday to be realized.
