Cabin Fever at Ramsey Outdoor, Paramus, NJ

Ober51

is happy every day she's around.
Has anyone been to their Cabin Fever events in the past? I am thinking of going to the Feb. 28th one, since I have never been to the SBR and would like to visit a bunch this year.

The two guys presenting are Mike McAuliffe and John Murdock. McAuliffe is talking about the SBR at 10:00am while Murdock is going to present on the Eastern Catskills at 11:30. As a novice, is this above me? Or will their jargon be dumbed down for guys like me? Any suggestions? Does it cost anything? ANy other information about this or these guys would be great, as I am sure they are beyond qualified. My apologies if this has been posted already.

Mike

Thanks for this post, Mike. I had a lot of these same questions myself.

Any info on the upcoming Ramsey events would be much appreciated.

Maybe I'll see some of you folks there.

Bring a small notebook and a pen. write down the important things and they will teach you for years to come. bring your ears and Mike Mc. will teach you for days. If your not writing things down you will forget so many things. Mikes presentation on the SBR is incredible you will walk away with volumes if you can write fast enough to keep up with his hatch chart and what to fish when. Check the Ramsey outdoor website for more info.

So it's worth it? Lol. I will likely be there pen and paper in hand. Thanks for this information, much appreciated.

This sounds like a good learning experience. Nothing on the Ramsey website about it though..? Says 17th annual Cabin Fever Saturday in Paramus, but that's it.

That would be John Collins "and" Mike McAuliffe's presentation on the SBR. Seems that John at Ramsey forgot to put my name in, but no biggie it's just a typo.

As Allway's: Here to set the record straight.

Actually it's "Cabin Fever" all month.
Eric Stroup and Gary Edwards are this Sat the 14th. I'll be there tying for the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild among other vendors and outfitters.
Come on out it should be very imformative.

Ha, those bastards. Looking forward to hearing you guys provide some much needed information for newbies such as myself.

After the presentation be sure to go up to the presenter and ask as many questions as possible. I did this after our very own Matt Grobert's presentation and learned lots. Thanks for the info Matt.

It kinda sucks that the trout stocking meeting and this are on the same day as I would have like to have attended this event but am going to the trout stocking meeting. Watch Mr. Collins closely and you will learn something..

i can't remember the name of the speaker, but i know that one of the presentations is about the SBR and should be pretty interesting. i'm looking forward to going. i believe its the first of the two presentations also.

Ramsey Outdoors in Paramus NJ - Cabin Fever Day Febuary 28th at 10 am

NJ Fly Fishing Guides John Collins and Micheal McAuliffe are extremly excited to announce our new presentation entitled Fly Fishing 12 Months in NJ. In this presentation you will learn how to imitate exactly what the Trout are eating for all 12 months of the year.
This 60 slide presentation is based on several years of intensive research studying seine and stomach samples, insect behavior, and Trout feeding patterns.
We have documented our findings with stunning photos and video illustrating how to catch more Trout in NJ.
Although the research and photos are from SBRR and KLG,this information can serve as a base to work on any freestone stream or river in the Northeast.

Hope to see you there,

Biot and McAwful

After a night out on the town with my better half last night, I managed to get up to attend the Rise Form presentation today. Great stuff, so glad I went. Mike and John went month-by-month with their results and demonstrated patterns and what works. I was able to jot down a lot of notes - making this a presentation that will help me for years to come - especially at this stage of my neophyte fly fishing career. Awesome job, guys.

Another thing. I was by far the youngest person to attend the seminar. At 26 I don't think I saw someone under 30, maybe even 35. I met a nice guy, Joe, and we chatted about how we both observed this trend. If I think of anything else I'll post on it.

Damn I completely forgot about this. I planned on hitting the SBR or Musky for a little while today, then decided against it, and instead of falling back on going to this, I went back to bed. Ahh oh well.

Just do yourself 1 favor... Don't over analyze things. It's not as hard and complicated as it might seem.

Lift up some rocks in the river and see what's crawling around underneath. Get yourself a copy of Al Caucci's Instant Mayfly Identification guide to help you identify the nymphs you might find and also the adults and spinners.

Yeah, I know you're right. But having a clue as to WHY I should fishing certain things at certain times helps me remember what to use. I like to have a lot of information, this way I'll retain a lot more - I realize that might not make sense to a lot of people. There wasn't so much information there that I was lost, either. But I have a better idea when people are presenting in front of me than just reading from books.

OBER - wish I knew you were there. It was an excellent presentation. John and Mike knows their stuff.

I was wearing an NYU sweatshirt and my Mets hat, you know, the one Brian gave me a hard time about? And I was writing pretty furiously, ha.

Oh I agree 100% and I've heard nothing but great reviews about Mike and Johns presentations. I highly recommend any class that will assist you in your pursuit of happiness. So your statement above makes plenty of sense to me. Sounds to me that they don't overwhelm you with information. I think that tends to just confuse people rather than teach.

Agreed, and thanks for the insight. As an aside, someone asked Mike if he could maybe get the slides after they were done. Didn't think he appreciated that by the tone of his "no," lol.

Ober,

If your nice to Rusty you might get to fish next week with us at my friends place. If he makes time to get out next week and a little work.

I looked for you but you must have left as soon as he was done. I've seen his presentation before and got there to late to be able to see so I just talked to Mike after his show.

It was just a plain no. We have more presentations to do this week.
Tues evening we are doing one for the Long Island Flyrodders and again at Ramsey in Ledgewood next Sat. the 7th.
Besides this presentation is schedualed to come out in E-Book form sometime this fall. Then the guy who asked for the slides can get every one when that happens.
Ober you should have introduced yourself. But I think I remember talking to you after the presentation was over.

Let us know when the ebook comes out (like you'd let that one slip by)

Yeah that was me. I always forget to introduce myself as Ober51, lol. But again, great job, I was able to get A LOT of information. It always helps when I am presented something - I retain much more. I am looking forward to the Ebook, let me know when it hits the online shelves. Hope to run into you guys again.

Mike

Great show and good patterns to use. What was the wing material used for the emergers
that looked like CDC ? I know you mentioned it but I didn't hear it clearly.

Thanks
Gary
