I had a great stay at Naknek River Camp near King Salmon, AK. Arriving on Sat. we had time to kill as a member of the group had to book the late flight. Somebody told me to go fish off the dock as some good fish have been caught that way. It wasn't long before I had a strike and the fight was on. After a decent tussle, I landed a 26 inch hog of a rainbow.

Day 2 we took a float plane to go fish the Kulic River. What a beautiful area. The sockeye were around in good numbers, and the rainbows were either mixed in with the sockeye or just below them. The rainbows were totally keyed on eggs. The numbers were great.

Day 3 we fished the Naknek River. There were opportunities for more large rainbows, though they were not easy to land.

Day 4 we fished Idavain Creek, a small stream with tons of rainbows and a few grayling.

Day 5 was Brooks Creek. I fished the upper section, there were many fish and many bears.

Day 6 was back on the Naknek. We found a few good spots to fish and got some more nice rainbows.

Day 7 was an off day as I was under the weather and the wind was gale force. Others did get out for a few hours and found more nice rainbows.

I got to try some of the local AK beer and it was great! What a trip!

A big thanks to Brachy for organizing this. Thanks Jeff!

I see how it is. You snaggers come through Anchorage and can't even buy me a small coffee.

Looks like you had a great trip. Lots of Hog Johnson's in the Naknek.

The crowds were not too bad, though the good spots would usually fill up fast. The Naknek has maybe 4 or 5 well known big bow locations. If you got out early, you could usually get one of those. If you got out late, then you were likely out of luck. And once someone was in one of those spots - they didn't leave. That surprised me for such a remote spot.

That's what happens when word gets out. Between all the articles online and in print, the Naknek is a go to location. Especially since you can just fly there from Anchorage and not have to take a bush flight.

Sounds like the Salmon River in NY? lol
