Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Fish your Face off
In October, I'll be very close to the W Branch Ausable, as well as nearby tribs, streams, and ponds.

Anybody got Experience or Recommendations? Any Thoughts Appreciated!

Thanks,
Steve

Kevin is pretty good. Try his website and call him for info. Pretty river. http://www.ausableriversportshop.com/

I would not trust the other famous shop in the area, he'll sell you whatever fly he has the most of...........

Make sure you have felt, studs better, wading staff a must. You'll be tired after a days wading, tons of slippery rocks, lots of great pocket water. That should be a great time of year to go

Great Isonychia hatches in the fall, real good stretch is below the no-kill where the road is parallel to the river. Hungry trout is nice place to stay...but don't bother fishing their dream mile section way down below Wilmington bridge, not really good. All and all great stream with alot pocket water. Use Isos,or Grey wulffs, zug bugs or big stone flies and of course the Ausable Wulff usually works. Some really nice size fish in this river. Good luck

by the way, I was up there fall of 2001. My wife and I took a 1 day ffing "class" (which they apparently don't offer any more) through the Ausable River Sport Shop. Kevin was a nice guy. Our guide for the day was not 'Rich' but another fellow who did steer us to fish (the 2nd half of the class), but on that day I couldn't hook up as I watched fish after fish refuse my offerings. In retrospect, I think i wouldn've been ok if I had a CDC emerger :) The buggers were sipping in duns, but only gave me some bulgy refusals!

The West Branch no-kill section is a great section, more pools and runs, not as much pocket water as the section above the gorge.

But there is a lot of nice water up there.

Also, just fyi, we stayed at a B&B called the "Book and Blanket" in Jay, which is not far from the shop.. only a couple of miles.

B&B's might not be your speed, but I enjoy them better than hotels, in general.
