Hardy/Greys .... the Leader in Two Things, Worst Customer Service and .....

the most broken equipment. I broke four of their rods up until now. They have gotten me the replacement parts reasonably quick. However, they are charging, a 29 dollar replacement fee, a 25 "service" fee and shipping. This is all for a Korean rod section that they paid four dollars for. It's been bearable till now. I sent a part back almost two months ago. They charged my credit card right when the received it. I have not gotten it, so I approached them at the show. They said, "there is nothing we can do for you." I responded with why did you charge my card when you knew you didn't have the part... no answer. The worst part is that I am sitting there talking to a idiot who looks as if he had been getting stoned all day. That entire booth reeked of marijuana. What a disgrace. I love it how the rip you off with cheap Korean crap and then some guinea pig has to clean it and lube it so it doesn't break while you are using their reel. I owned an Angel... their best reel, supposedly. It rusted and corroded so bad that I threw it off a bridge in disgust. The people who were at that booth make a company which such heritage look like a joke. They are a total disgrace a bunch of drug abusing hooligans...

Nice first post/rant. I have to ask, do you run over your equipment every day or every other day??? :) Seems the one that is suspect here is the rod owner that breaks 4 rods (I've been FFing 40 years and only broke one, but it was in the car doing something stupid). And rust on your reels? What's that about? Sorry, but my experience with Hardy/Greys has been very different from yours, but then I don't abuse my gear as it sounds like you might be doing(?).

If I had to guess, you'll break rods from other manufacturer's now that you seem ready to bail on this one...:crap:

sounds like bull shit to me why the fuck would you throw a $500 reel off a bridge maybe your the smokin pot. You obviously take very poor care of your equipment. to have a reel that has all machined alumium part rust it is clear you used them int he salt and never properly cleaned them. As for breaking 4 of their rods you must be one f'n cluts or you just outright abuse your stuff. If you read the warranty it states there is a charge.
As for the guys at the booth, I know all of them personally and they are far from pot heads maybe you smelled it but there were 100's of people thru the booth when I was there Saturday and I can tell you not all of them were strait laced.

Well.. I'll be a little more sympathetic with my response. I'll start off by saying that the rods (at least the higher end rods) that I've cast are pretty sweet and everyone I've spoken with has said the same thing. Now... I think you would get a bit more sympathy if you explained what/where/how/conditions before just saying that they won't replace your parts.

29*4 + 25*4 + Shipping*4 is pretty expensive considering it's a Korean model rod.

What parts were broken off this rod that you were able to have them ship new ones?

State your case dude. We might be able to help you here but coming off like this is going to get you what you've gotten already... ZIPPO.

I was at the Hardy booth. I do not know what you saw, but I found The representatives from Hardy to be class act's. They cleaned my LRH and changed warn paws at no charge. I agree with Rusty, stop abusing your equipment. It is a fly rod not a steel I-beam. As far as your reel rusting and corroding, there is more to taking care of your reels than throwing them in the trunk of your car at the end of one season and wondering why it looks unusable at the start of the next year. Start taking responsibility for your equipment care.

It's a tip section of a ten foot two weight. About throwing the reel off the bridge... I did that because I went and got a bunch of hatch reels asap. They are awesome. I am lucky to have some disposable income. I also went out and got a two SAGE rods to replace the Hardy equipment.

BTW I fish once a week, have a kid and a full time job. I take good care of my stuff. It breaks while fishing.

The prices for the parts sickens me. That's why I got the SAGE rods. I spent 240 in repairs... I'm not giving that company another dime...

LMAO

Mullet, you're doing something wrong if you're breaking any rods while fishing. Either you are whacking bead heads against them on your cast and damaging the graphite or you are using too much tip when fighting a fish. No rods should ever break if you fish them correctly. I'm not busting chops, this is a fact. Typically I see this only in the saltwater when trout anglers try to fight a football sized bluefin tuna and wind up high sticking them only to blow up their rods. Fight your fish from the butt section if it's a big fish and you will tire that fish out much quicker and not wind up breaking your rods.

Well... for a first post at least he didn't ask for fishing directions from Clinton on Rt. 78.

Yeah, I have to agree with the mob here....

Your story doesn't pass the smell test.

Sorry Buggaloo ...

Just another poor little boy crying ....

PS

I just gotta ask....

You sure it is your kid?

You sure been wrong about everything else in your post.

Dude if you bought an Angel and sent in your warranty it would have been replaced. Throwing it off the bridge is plain stupid and my first thought is your full of crap. Now if you would have posted that you had a bad experience and perhaps had some photos you would get a lot more support and possibly a better resolution.

I hear you loud and clear, mulletfudge. You would think since we have 30,000 servicemen protecting their asses from a third world country to their north they could at least build a quality fly rod... i own a 10' 3wt...I love it. it is the only non Orvis rod i own.

You have more than one rod?

What the fuck for?

I like my streamflex 10ft 4 wt but the third or fourth time out the threaded butt below the reel seat FELL OFF while playing a fish. I've never had an issue with any fly rod so it was quite a surprise when I need to fight the fish line in hand with the reel at my feet while anchored, get the net, etc... So even though it was replaced quickly under warranty and I only needed to pay for shipping back to Greys....I'm not inclined to buy another. Maybe it was a fluke, but I've had zero issues with Sage, Orvis, TFO, etc rods over the years.

Even if it was fluke since they are so much like a flounder, it still shouldn't have done that.

Thanks Rusty, I should be getting the mount of that fish back soon.

TT - here's a 32" monster bow I landed while fishing with my buddy, Davey that I had mounted. Our guide, Goliath, handled this beauty for me. Davey and he did not get along on that day at all, but that's a very old story....

on another site you say bamboo rods are for people who can't cast graphite what do you mean by this.

Hey, meat head, what bridge did you toss that reel off of? And which side? And real far or just like a toss off the bridge? Just wondering...

DeBacle, I was wondering if I could borrow that wet suit and tank you use for spearfishin' in the Mainstem...

I threw it off the upstream side of the Hale Eddy bridge. It has no line as the Wulff line is more valuable than the reel. Go get it!
