I once heard of a guy getting his eye ripped out with a salt water fly, think about it, that fly is traveling maybe 100 mph as it passes within a couple feet of your head, add some wind and bad casting it could be inches from your eye on more than one cast. I use glasses with those hard side gadgets to protect my eyes and it also keeps sunlight from entering the side of the glasses, never ever cast without eye protection. I also heard of someone getting a large hook in the jugler vein.
