Catskill
Catskill Junky
This past Saturday afternoon I had the opportunity to get out of the house and fish. My plans were to get to the gorge, fish for a few hours, then come home and complete the weekend honeydo list. I have not been out in over a month so as you can imagine, I needed this. I got my stuff together and headed for the Ken Lockwood Gorge. On my way there, I stopped in Shannon's little fly shop by the bridge to pick up a few flies and while there, I checked out a few rods. One rod that stuck out was this JP Ross. What a beautifull piece of work. It's a 4wt rod Green blank, 2pc with Cocobol and anodized aluminum reel seat and a 6 inch handle. As you can tell, all top of the line parts on on the rod. Now there is also a touch of art on the rod. A really nice feather imbedded into the rod. I'm not sold yet because I haven't cast the rod. The store owner told me I would love it so I took it outside and cast it for 5 minutes or so and he was right. I told him I'd take one. Oh, before I forget, the rod is Under 250 dollars. As owner started writing out my sales slip, he informed me of another option. I can get the rod named after my favorite stream or my name or both. I didn't walk out of the store with my new rod, but I had the option to pick it up or have it mailed right to me. Good business. I was told that on Nov 13th Jonathan Ross will be at the fly shop and that I could pick my rod up at that time. I think he's holding a rod promo at the shop.
Since I was in the shop so long, that left me with only 2hrs to fish. How do you get your fishing done in 2hrs. All I know is that when I got to the stream my watch said 3:30. My wife wanted me home by 6. uh uh, it aint gawna happen. I fished from 3:30 to 7:00 and didn't get home until after 8:00. "How could you do this, you said you'de be here at 6:00, blah blah blah" In one ear right out the other, wait'l she finds the credit card bill.. I fished a slow water spot for a few hours to rising fish. I caught 2 browns and 2 bows in that time using tiny olive emergers and size 16 - 18 caddis. It rained a little bit while I was fishing but I didn't let that stop me. All in all it was a good day and since then my wife calmed down. I told her I wont fish until Mid November!
