weamer true form hook

I was out the other day and used a sulphur spinner tied on a weamer true form hook. Had 2 solid takes, waited for the fish's head to tip down and set the hook. Both times the hook did not find home. Switched to another pattern and got solid hooksets right away. Anyone else have issues with these hooks, or any tricks to using them???

Perhaps it was just not a good day for that hook/pattern. I'll try it again and see what happens.

I never heard of wiener hooks. I have heard of wiener dogs, wieners cooked on a stick over a campfirer. wiener pervs.anthony-weiner-0b1e2ad86cde52ef.jpg but not wiener hooks. I suggest you stop buying your hooks at the dollar store.

I only use Eagle Claw.

These are my favorite...tippet already tied on, and all those barbs...ain't nothin' gettin' away!!!!

Okay, my opinion: I would NOT use size 14 or 16 hooks as the design does not seem optimal for hooking potential. Size 12 on down - especially larger - I would feel comfortable.

Knowledgeable source: The smaller sized hooks - 16 or smaller supposedly had quality control issues.

IMO, there's no need to get fancy with sulphur hooks. It is the easiest mayfly to imitate in all life forms. I often fish either just an emerger or dun regardless of what is on the water (spinners, duns, emergers) because it is the color that keys the fish on this hatch. Your mileage may differ, but I just match up hook size to either the Dorotheas or Invarias or the other summer sulphurs showing on a stream near you.
