vise and chair

bugman

Just finished a River Runs Through it!
tying on and off for years it finally looks like i am at a place in my life where i can stay with it..i was wondering what kind of chair vise combos people use....i am currnetly sitting on a plastic chair with a clamp on vise...i have a nice recliner however when i sit behind the vise on that chair i can not seem to tye comfortable...i keep trying different ways i am sure i will find something but just wondering what others found to work....

For my room I went to office Depot and bought a really nice padded computer chair that is padded on seat and back with lombard support with arm rest's. This chair is comfterable and looks great in the tying room. Got the chair on sale for $100. Not on sale goes for around $159.99.

I use a Renzetti Presentation 4000 with cam jaws with a saltwater base. I gave up on clamp styles years ago.

I'm using a NOR-Vise when I tye. As far as my chair... Well, my brother in-law was working for a moving company and they were throwing out old chairs. This one is pretty ugly but it sure is comfortable and very sturdy. The base is all medal!

Hi bugman, i use an office chair, computer chair, whatever. It's got arm rest, swivels, very well padded, and adjustable. That's the only way to go/fly. As for vises, i have about 10 so far, and have given away a couple, the early ones, cheapos. I keep four on my tying desk at all times to just be there for drying flies or whatever. Then there's two more set up in the dinning room. And a couple more in Manhattan at my apt. I always use a pedastal, and the heavier the better. I can't stand clamp on vises because they put you to far away from the table. And your "stuff", materials just end up on the floor. Not to mention a lot of tables don't accept the clamp very well. And when you tye all over the place, that matters. One more thing. I always use the long(er) stem. sometimes you will have to order it extra/special. I do not like looking down at my flies all day/night. I like to look straight out at my fly and you can do that with the long stem and a pedastal combined. "There you go." mark
