I have had the HMH Spartan for a couple of years and overall it is fine to tie with, but I have had a couple of annoying problems that I am wondering if they are just my bad luck or are known problems.
First, I cannot tighten the pin that holds the thumb lever in place, and if I have been using the vise it tends to fall out if I go to change heads or just take the vise off its pedestal. I can live with it, but my biggest concern is losing the pin. I have tried using a screwdriver or gently tapping it in, but no luck.
Second, there is an allen-like screw that holds the vise in place once you get it to the position you want. I cannot seem to tighten it enough and it sometimes will move up when I close the vise using the thumb lever. Anyone else have this problem.
The regular and midge vise heads hold well and I like the rotary feature and I have gotten used to the vise, but find these couple of flaws annoying at times. Any suggestions besides sending it back to the manufacturer?
