"Tying small flies" by Ed Engle

Andre

The Bamboo Guy!
Bought the book today and after looking it over all I can say is WOW . He does a geat job at showing you how to tie the patterns you would need for winter fishing and PA spring creeks. I'm probably a lower end intermediate tier and even I can tie these flies with the pictures and instructions supplied. I would easily recommend this book and sorry it took me so long to get it. Well written with great photos and instruction.

Andre:
I first read his book Fishing Small Flies which prompted me to buy Tying Small Flies. Both books are very good reads. I have been tying alot of his patterns for my son who has the exclusive pleasure of fishing tailwaters 90% of the time.

Fly Tying and Fishing Books

The original thread goes back a few years but I feel somethings you have to review the past to help out the new lads to our sport.

In addition to the fine books listed below for your educational and reading enjoyment, I have a few other books I would like to add.

Fishing the Midget, Ed Kock
Midge Majic, Holbrook & Koch

Tricos, Bob Miller (a local fly fisherman who fishes the Little Lehigh)

AK,

I have both Midge Majic and Miller's Trico book. I"m going to "2nd" your reccomendation on these. These are great books particularly for the PA spring creeks.

I second ( or third ) the "Fishing Small Flies" by Ed Engle.
It's an excellent instructional book.

Now, it seems as though I have to get a few more based on these general recommendations.

I just ordered the Midge Majic book and will be looking forward to reading about fishing and tying the midge. I really was interested in Tricos by Bob Miller but couldn’t find it...

Wylie:

Trico's is a very good book, it has been out of print for some time. I wanted to get it for two of the patterns explained in full in it. I found it at Albris books, but for about $185.00 it just wasn't worth it.

I am tying some Beatis in a similar manner I cant wait to see how they work.

One was a spinner pattern, but i don't recall the names of either. Both were
Bob Miller ties. Your inset picture the Lawyer has been my go-to for about 4
years now. I have access to his book now and then. He goes into detail of how
to blend the specific dubbings & tying procedures.

I have started tying the Trico with Al C. Spectrumized trico/beatis dubing. I am hopeing that the trout could take the fly for either a BWO or a Trico. I will have to check back with my results.
