TU to hire Marcellus Shale Coordinator for PA

Some of the best hunting and fishing in the East today is found in the Marcellus Shale region of Pennsylvania where intact habitat sustains healthy populations of wild and native trout as well as other wildlife. If Pennsylvania sportsmen and women do not make their voices heard, these values could be lost to the land disturbances, water withdrawals, and wastewater discharges associated with the development of natural gas. To prevent the loss of these special places, TU is hiring a person to organize and train TU members and other sportsmen and women. The organizer will work closely with the Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited and provide coordination and assistance to local TU chapters as well as other conservation and sportsmen organizations.

The above posting is directly from our jobs listing on the TU site for any who may be interested or know someone dynamic that might be interested in this job (Jobs | Trout Unlimited - Conserving coldwater fisheries)

The idea is to train others - from TU chapters to any concerned organizations or citizens in the Marcellus Shale regions of PA - how to recognize problems and concerns with gas wells and to be the eyes and ears for a regulatory agency (PA DEP) that is already overwhelmed by the new drilling activity and permits. It is the hope of TU and our principle funder to force the gas drilling companies to conform to laws that protect our drinking water supplies and provide clean, cold water for our natural resources, including trout of course, by focusing on holding their collective feet to the fire. We all know that when extractive industries like gas drilling is allowed to cut corners simply because no one is looking, the environment ALWAYS suffers a mighty price. Where laws are followed and drilling done correctly, extraction is far safer for our beloved trout streams and our drinking water supplies.

Anyone considering submission of their resume that might have any employment questions at TU, please feel free to PM me.

Pretty sure at least one of my chapter's members has applied, at least he said he was doing so.
