Tonka Queen

Kenny Joe

The Flow
I bought a Tonka Queen in slight disrepair awhile ago and did enough repairs on it to make it fishable. I fished it on and off a few times early last season, switching between rods. I was not sure I liked it till one day early fall I discovered I could finally cast it across the Musky at Point Mountain with little effort. From that day I find it to be my go to rod. Anyone else here have a Queen? I am just wondering if I got a "good one" or if they all pretty much perform well?

You could be using a branch off some old tree....

If you can cast with it...

It does what you wish it to do....

Who cares what other's think.

How about writing a "report" on how you started using it, how you over came problems and gained experience in casting it.

A lesson's learned thing on casting.

Now that is what is really needed, and be of interest to all.

Seriously, think about it and post it.

I've always heard good things about the Tonka Queen and Prince. Some of the best blue collar bamboo rods around.

Kenny Joe,
Hold onto the rod, it's better than what you think! I bought 1 of these same rods about 17 yrs. ago at a local fly shop for $25, refurbished it for my then 9 yr. old son for a birthday present and he's had it ever since! As he grew older, he would be required to "give a rod to get a rod" deal when I bought a better rod than the cane rods that he already owned. This rod is still in his possession! He liked it that much.

It's a better quality cane than the 3 piece H-I rods and a work horse of a rod in the short to medium range casts........ The swelled butt on them give it a little more backbone to throw longer lines. I'm not sure how wide your "Musky" is, but I would be hesitant to strain the rod past a comfortable casting distance.........

Good fishing to ya!

Thank You, Cane. I really like the rod. I do have another in disrepair. I think I will get it in a fishable condition this summer.

A guy i work with gave me a bamboo rod the sticker says montague rapidan from what i can read its a nine foot pool with two end pieces it has the orginal case and what not its missing two eye lits and the one end piece is cracked just curious on if any one had an idea of what i have

Tonka Queen is one of the best [rodution rods HI ever made I have a 2/2 queen and love it the Tonka Prince is also a great small stream rod. I use one or the other just about every weekend. I like my QUEEN with a wf5 line and there is very little that it can not do for you. The rapidan that you have is a low grade Montague fix it up and fish it I personally would not spend any money on it unless you send it out to have it shortened to a smaller size rod.

Man-o-man you're useless. If you don't like the question or have nothing to add, then don't. I am now interested in these rods. They seem worth investigating. Yes I see the hypocrisy in my post.

Hey, TOMPG, I found the single most useful utility on this site was the ignore feature. No more reading "useless post" while trying to to enjoy NEFF. Thank you. I would definately buy another Tonka Queen if I needed one. I also have the Tonka Prince which I find a nice little dry fly kind of wand.
