Todays learning experience

Wierd, Next time you run into them, try an adams. The grey body is a much closer match than any olive dubbing. Nice pics. :)
 
saw a brown at the tail out of that run you were fishing that was pushing 20'' this winter. That section has really been flushed out in a good way. A lot more fishable water(there were some bad snags), and still good structure left. Might take a look in that area next week.
 
Yea the olives around my way are more grayish as well...
Tru going Klink style with your chute, this is a hatch that having the body hanging in the film can make all the difference
 
My personal general rule of thumb is that the faster or more broken up the water is on the surface, the less your fly matters. You can catch fish all day during a hatch using a full Catskill traditional dry in a riffle while if you fish the long, slow, flat water pool above or below it, you may need a no-hackle dry and perhaps a fly one size smaller if they are finicky.
