Sunday surprise

Sunday I traveled to the Lehigh Valley for a few hours of fishing, hoping that the water levels would still be up. Alas, the water had been up quite a bit, evident by the washed down vegetation along the stream, but the banks had receded back to low gin clear conditions.
The weather when I arrived streamside was overcast and breezy, welcome conditions with the low water. But that was not to last as the skies cleared and the sun was bright after only a short time fishing.
However the tricos were out in light numbers a short time after the sun made its appearance but I had hoped to have an olive hatch under cloudy conditions. Result, no fish rising.
I caught four browns at my first stop, average size 10-12 inches. Also had a few flying releases on a couple dinks. My second stop found me on the upper reach of the stretch with my first drifts at the infamous "storm drain pipe hole". This spot almost always yields a decent fish and after a few drifts I was presented with a strike that I just flat out missed. I tried a few more drifts with no success so I continued on down river. This stretch gave up another 5 browns all about the same size as the earlier group. On my way back to the car I stopped at the spot were I had missed that earlier strike and hoped for the one last fish scenario to manifest itself. After a few drifts of no takers I switched nymphs to the Hess Rubber-Legged Stonefly which has been good to me over the last few outings. Two drifts later and bang, I hooked the fish in that hole but was completely surprised to see that in fact is was not a wild brown, but a chunky sixteen inch rainbow. I have my suspicions as to where this bird flew in from.
