Small Streams Near West Point?

bhaase

Blue Quill Tickler
Anybody have any suggestions for fishing this weekend near West Point? More specifically, my in-laws are in Cornwall-on-Hudson. I'm only familiar with the Fishkill and Moodna.
Thanks,
B

I know of some GREAT wild brown streams (some are fairly wide). And one of them is just the bee's knees. Its sandy and fun to explore from its source untill it goes into WP I dont fish it when it crosses the line cause i don't feel like being shot. And ITS NEVER FISHED!!! god i cant wait to go back to there. Too bad I'm not going to say the name on here.

I will give you some advice. Moodna is put and take and there will be 1 trout in it right now if you're lucky. Just go to Washingtonville and look at its head waters, SLOW, WIDE, DEEP, DRAINS FARMLAND. Stay way from that river for trout. Fishkill I have no clue ask someone. If you're going to Cornwall-on-Hudson. Go across the hudson and try the Croton system. It must only be 30 mins away from you at max. E.B. Croton i hear is the best. Or the ramapo just a little south of you in the tuxedo area.

I have to disagree about Moodna. It can have a decent holdover if the summer isn't too hot. I have caught some real nice fish in September. If you want some small streams check out the upper Woodbury section by the Winery and above on RT 32. Also try behind the cemetary when you first enter Central Valley on the left. Also Trout Brook road which is between Rt. 32 and Mineral Springs road. You can't fish above the bridge on Mineral Springs because it becomes private but you can fish the norther side between the two roads.
CMM you still getting crap from the other forum about your exploits in the Gorge???
Bhasse,
I fish the stream your are talking about in West Point, along with a few more in the area. Try the one that runs through Highalnd Falls. Right in the middle of the village is a good area as long as you don't mind catching trout nestled behind a discarded shopping cart.
