Combat Fly Fisherman
Got out last weekend to fish a small, spring-cooled stream in Somerset County. Water was 64 degrees and a bit higher than usual.
Spent most of the morning fishing a few small pools to no avail. After lunch, though, we hit into a few fat bows left over from stocking. They were hitting mostly GRHE's. AndyB's black turkey was helpful also.
Further downstream is a pool that I really love, about 7 feet deep and always has holdover fish and some wild browns. Hooked into an 11" wild brown on my second cast. Beautiful fish! My cousin worked the pool for 1 1/2 hours after that, repeatedly losing a large bow (maybe 14") until finally landing him after 4 tries. Each try required him to change nymphs and wait the pool out for about 20-30 mins. I guess patience pays off. He was strong as an ox and we quickly returned him to the pool where he bolted for the bottom.
