Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

September 1st already !

I can't believe it is already Sept. My goodness, this season just flew by.(A sure sign of ageing). I have 6 weeks of fishing left before I hit the woods. The surface action can be good up to then, but after that it all depends on the weather. I hear some years fish rise until early November if the weather is not to cold. Good luck to all this fall season and get out there while there is still time.

EB, ...

September brings us a new run of sea runners (brookies), ... Best time of year, ... dry flies at noon, automn colors, no Bugs, ... cool temperatures and higher flow rates. Fewer anglers and reduced rod fees :)

Bon Jour Fcch,
I have been to Quebec fishing many times but not in Sept. Once , while driving to Baie Comeau, we stopped at a river ( I think it was called the St.Margareete? ) .They said they have a great run of sea run brook trout there. One of these Sept. I am going to check it out. I have fished lakes in La Malbaie. Nice brookies there! I once spent 4 wonderful fishing days at a place called Lac de la Cache. It was 30 miles east of Manicquagan 5. They have a great trout there called the rouge (red). It was like a brookie with big teeth and very long bodies. They were very aggressive and bit like heck. A few years ago I went up to Fermont. A 3 day drive from NY. Someone took me to a lake ( Lac Witch ) which has a trout they called a taludtse(unsure of spelling) that I had never seen before. They said it was a cross of gris(laker) and brookie. In this country that would be a splake ,but it did not look like splake that I had seen before. These were brown with bright yellow spots. Are you familiar with these fish ? Once I was up by Chicoutimi. We took a float plane for 30 minutes to a string of lakes. I had my dry flies for the Catskills with me. I lucked out as a mayfly similiar to ISO's were hatching in big numbers on these lakes, and the fish were selective to them, which is rare up there. Anyway I had a bunch of dun variants which was a perfect match. My partner and I clobbered them when no one else could catch them. All brookies. I had to share my flies back at the camp with the others that night. Next summer I'm coming back to Quebec. It's the best !

EB!!!, ... You gotta come back!!

Actually, ... this will quite likely be a FishIn in early August, ... on my homewaters so you'd get a chance to hook up with any folks coming up from your parts.

"taludtse", ... would probably be a Touladi ... which is a Lake Trout. Salvelinus namaycush ... They GET BIG, ... splakes grow faster, ... but we call 'em Mulac's ...

If you passed on your way to baie Comeau, ... you might possibly have driver along my homewaters ... The Ste-Marguerite ( http://pages.videotron.com/fcch/homewaters/RvSteMarguerite.html ).

We have some fantastic still water fishing here and in the mid summer,... some rare, but nice hatches. On the river, ... no hatches as the fish are there for spawning, ... not for the food ;)

September and Oct are even more fun as there are no bugs, ... less anglers, ... juvenile sea run brookies and automn colours.

Fcch,
Yes, it was the Ste.Marguerte river that we stopped at for a look. Nice river. We were on our way east then north so we were there for a short time, but I will be back.

Scott, ... Go get 'em !!

EB, ... I figured that was as such. You must have come into the airport in Chicoutimi (CFB Bagotville YBG)

It is a nice stretch of road and we follow the river most of the way.

Try some time !!

Christopher, one of these seasons I will come up to see you and you can introduce me to your big fat seafaring S. Salars.

I was invited on a trip to Ontario for monster Muskie fishing this September, but between my landlocked salmon trip this September, and my holiday with the wife to celebrate our 10th anniversary in October my vacation time is wiped out until next June.

Which is a bummer because I would really like to hook into a 50+" musky or two.

All things being equal I'd much rather land a fat Atlantic salmon... :D

I need more vacation time!
