Good Afternoon Guys,
</SPAN>
I made the ultimate mistake (trying to buy a cheap starter vise) and paid for my mistake. After acquiring all the materials, books, and storage units I needed I finally sat down last night to tie my first fly. Needless to say, the vise I purchased was absolutely horrible. </SPAN>

I am looking to buy a pedestal base (I don’t have table tops in my box of an apartment to use a clamp) under $200. I would prefer the vise to be full rotary and would like to be able to tie all sorts of fly sizes but will mainly focus on sizes 14-22. Money is an issue, so I’d like to get the most bang for my buck.
</SPAN>
Some that I was looking at were:</SPAN>

  1. Peak Rotary vise</SPAN></SPAN>
  2. The Renzetti Traveler vise</SPAN>
  3. HMH Spartan vise</SPAN>
  4. Dyna-King Squire vise</SPAN>

Other suggestions more than welcome! I would like to be able to go to a shop and test out the vises to see what I like best but would like to go in with several options in mind.

Sure rookie, just keep blaming the vise.

Another recommendation for the Renzetti Traveler. I tie giant saltwater down to small midges on mine. Pedestal base.

I endorse using Renzetti,do not get caught into the trap of Renzetti knockoffs. Renzetti Traveller cam operated jaws will tie everything your gonna tie for most applications. I own and operate a Renzetti Master Vice. this Traveller is very close without the pricetag, and i believe ties from #28 to #4/0. My other backup is the HMH Spartan with two extra jaws for different sized hooks.. BUT IMHO the Renzetti with a pedestal base will be your best choice. you wont have to take the jaws apart to change hook sizes and its the standard by which others want to be.

renzetti traveler is now ~$160 for 2013. i highly recommend it. i just bought the 2300 all black traveler to replace my late 80's traveler.

+5 for the traveler. Next time you travel to 2300, please bring me back a jet pack and any sort of ray or disruptor gun. Maybe the phase plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

a little advice tye a couple flies on a bunch of differnt vices before you make your decision.... the renzetti traveler is a great vice but try one out

I bought a Peak last year. I spent a lot of time researching and comparing vises. I believe it is best vice for the money. Like Renzetti it is also made in the USA

PEAK Fishing Home

Lmao last time i checked the Renzetti and HMH vises were American made .Have been from day one.

Get your facts first , then you can distort them as you please!;)
