Just finished a River Runs Through it!
Hello,

Does anyone live in the Ballston Lake area of NY? I am thinking about moving up that way was trying to get some opinions.

Thanks you in advance for your help.

I used to live in Schenectady for about three years and worked in Glenville, both right down the road from Ballston Lake. Its a pretty cheap place to live, within an hour of a major airport and commerce hub, and close to the Adirondacks. Its an eclectic cross between suburban and rural living; I'd personally move back in a heartbeat.

Thanks....I live in NJ too. My job requires me to travel through out New England. I kind of found that area appealing.

So i take it you think it is better then Jersey, huh?

In a lot of ways, yes I think it is better than New Jersey. Its way less crowded, less noisy, closer to the wilderness. However, it comes with the inconvenience of being a semi-rural area, you're farther away from everything. Getting to New England from there isn't really any better than getting there from New Jersey, except that you'll never have to fight NYC traffic again. Its about an hour drive to get to I90E, and then another half hour before you actually cross into Mass.

Do you have children? How are the schools systems?

Any areas in Saratoga county to keep away from?

I live in Saratoga and I love it. The house prices are probably cheap compared to NJ. I moved here 8 yrs ago from Mass and couldn't believe how cheap prices were but they've come up a lot since then. It has a good blend of country and enough urban to offer lots of things to do. THere are some good schools around and some poorer ones. Burnt Hills school District is the schools for Ballston lake and its an excellent district. If one is willing to travel there is lots of water within 2-3 hours drive to keep one busy year round. Hope this helps.

what he said.

I've lived a half hour either side (troy, lake george), and find the area generally appealing. a nice bonus for areas above albany is the general lack of auto traffic...except during track season of course.

I was married at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga.
I Lived in Clifton Park for 4 years.

All I ever wanted was a transfer back to NJ.

That was 20 years ago.

I would give aything to live back up there, but alas my wife is never going to
leave NJ... Ok let the jokes fly...

Ralph:

Look at all the fishing she lets you do in New York every year.

So you have no room to complain!

Ralph,

I know how you feel.

I had the opportunity to buy 15 acres in upstate NY with 1 1/2 miles of Sutters Creek, yes it gets salmon and steelhead, with a 1800sqft cape, 2 cabins, and a camp ground for $275,000. She said she will never move any further north. So, I'm stuck here in NJ until I'm willing to move to FL. Yuk!
