Salmon River 2013 season

Help me out with dates

Last season I had a blast in the beginning of the season. I went earlier than usual and got really lucky (I was there on Sep 10-12 - biggest push that I ever witness)

Usually I try to go there during second week of the September (less fish ,less crowds, no circus ,getting skunk on some days:))

Last year I didn't had a choice when to go. Once I was able to get few days off - I went

So now I have a choice between Sep 10-12 or Sep 17-19. Unfortunetly with the family and work I will not be able to go there for the second time

Which days would you go?

Thanks

PS I know most of you will go there in late October (for steelies)

Sep 17-19. You have a very good shot at hitting a fresh run of cohos in the lower river then.

Agreed. The later in September, the better. Plus steelhead may be trickling in as well. Hope you guys get some cooler temps and rain. If the temps get into the 40's at night and stay in the low 60's or 50's during the day in the week prior to you getting there, you can be certain a good push of fish will be in the river.

I have never been up there but I booked a room this year for the weekend of OCT 4

I was really not trying to think about steelhead for at least a few more weeks. Summer is way too long.

Thank you for your feedback. Can't wait.

Too bad I'll be missing spey season again. Tell you the truth if I'll not be able to get out for dropbacks I'll consider start selling some of my gear:crap:

No big water near you to use your Spey gear?

I guess I was out of forums for while

What are you doing in Alaska? You used to be in NY

Besides Delaware River (for smallies)nothing else is close by (within 2 hours)

Crushing FISH!

I moved here for good. Well I re-enlisted with Alaska as a guaranteed duty station.

How big is your spey outfit?

I have multiple outfits

2 7wt Scandi/Skagit rods

2 Switch Rod in 6wt and 7wt

Actually I decided to get rid of half of it. I just going to keep 2 outfits. Spey rod and Salmon River and Switch for Delaware

Came back from the river. I really want to go back again
Fishing was kind of slow. I didn't see a lot of fish staying in the slots. Fish was on the move. Cohos, Steelhead and Kings
I was fishing in lower DSR for 3 days. I saw a lot of people snagging fish in Joss Hole - especially in the evening and early morning. Probably next year I will try to go even more later . somewhere Sep 21 - 24
I wonder how crowded will it be in DSR

My only one method that I was using - short line swinging with weighted fly and no split shots

"Learning Latin"? Learn English - catch anything? Pictures?

Landed 2 Kings. Lost 3 because of bad tippet. Stay away from trout hunter tippets on the Salmon River. They are really bad when dealing with rocks

All fish was caught by short line swings. No pics

Bro set yourself up with some Drennen my dude.. Best lifestyle choice you could make.

The later you go, the more crowded it'll be. Was up for 3 days earlier this week, action was slow. Caught a couple kings and a coho swinging olive buggers.

I've already had my fill of salmon fishing.....

Lmao................ hands down Maxima is the standard others hope to live by. Seaguar isn't too bad for fluorocarbon until it gets cold out then that gets brittle. Maxima in your favorite flavor Chameleon or Ultra Green or go home

Can you post a pic of the rock you were standing on next time?! Sheesh! How are we supposed to steal your spot if we don't know where you fished!

Drennen is he way to go 6-8 lb works fine if you have a good reel .. No questions asked.. Tried all the rest Drennen is the best. I use Maxima for my main leader and Drennen for tippet section.
