Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

With the rain predicted which ended up being snow for a couple of hours and only having a short time, I decided to make a trip thru the hollow to the Still river in eastford and fish a piece of water that I have probably spent over over 1000 days fishing in the early part of my fly fishing 25 years ago ( as a kid we camped at a campground only a 1/4 mile from this area so i spent most of my 4 years of high school fishing it and again after college when I would spend the weekends with family there) Funny thing is I drive by this strech so often to get to other places and have not thought about stopping in like 10 years.
anyway, water was running good and clear temps were 46-47, about 10 degrees colder than the air. I managed to have the river to myself except for a buddy who met me there. we fished a bridge pool to start. with in 3 or 4 casts i managed a nice stocker brown of about 11" on a green rock worm. a few casts later I missed on as the fly swing past a large rock. My bud hooked nice rainbow czech fishing the head of the pool the broke it all off on a rock and had to spend 10 minutes to retie it. I hooked and landed a cookie cutter copy of the first brown on the same fly. we decided to frog hop our way down stream to a big pool in the state forest that has given up a load of fish for me. Made it to the pool with out touching another fish. I fished the pool first and did not even get a bump. my bud follwed me thru and had the same result ( it must have been hammered on opening day) we fished our way down thru some nice deep cuts and a couple of nice small bend pools I only managed 1 more small rainbow here. It started to rain much harder and my bud said he thought his rain jacket was leaking so we headed back to the trucks along the state forest trial. Once back at the bridge I had to take just a couple more cast to a sweet looking seam under the bridge, first cast bam indie goes down i set the hook into a nice 15" hold over rainbow that put up a real nice fight for it's size. decided to end the wet day on a good note so we packed it in. i will have to spend some more time there this spring I forgot how nice the area was.
