Hi to every body there,I just bought a pontoon after read and see all this beautiful pictures in magazines.but I havent use a pontoon before,is any inportan information I supost to know before used it.I live in princeton and plan tu use it in a lake around here .are any regulation in where can I use it,any information it well be appreciate. (where it well be the best place to used a pontoon):crap:

Depends on what you want to fish for.

The Delaware is perfect, but you will need to arrange for shuttle service, which in this area is pretty tough. Up in the upper reaches most of the fly shops offer it as do a number of private individuals. Pontoons on the East and West branch are fairly common now.

You may need to register it as a boat to use it on WMA's and large lakes like Spruce Run or Round valley. (I would avoid the Valley if there is any wind.) And any of the small local ponds and lakes should be fun. (Look up Amwell Lake.)

I suspect if you try and use it on the Musky, Pequest or Upper Raritan you will find your self carrying it for long stretches and then trespass issues may arise. Though I suspect the lower SB might be fun to float, just pay attention to dams, as they can ruin your whole day.

try to do some research before you put it in a local pond or lake. I was once about to launch my float tube while a cop showed up let me know that "boating" on the lake was not permitted. didn't get a ticket but was bummed I couldn't use it.

I have a poonton boat going on 12 years now, and this past summer got more use of it then every before. Quick Lake in /sussex County, Jenny Jump State Forest of Shady's of Death Road, Twin Lakes in Kittantiny State Park, Jefferson Lake in Byram (Stephens State Park).

I don't recommend any Lake that allows outboards, as one the wind will drive you crazy and two kids in power boats!

I even put it on Spring Lake and Lake Coumo down at the shore.

This comment is way off topic but the upper EB is much more narrow than the BK. I think pontoons should be banned from the entire EB above Jaws. If guys want to get to some sections away from EZ access points they should get the exercise and walk in like we all did before pontoons were invented.

Probably the only reason it is floated with relative impunity is because the river does not get excessive pressure or media coverage. If five guys put their 'toons in at Junction Pool on the BK and floated to Horton it would create local hysteria among every wading fly fisher on the river.

BTW while I have a Hyde I never launch it anywhere on the WB above Balls Eddy. The WB has plenty of access and if you can't reach the trout guys should learn how to cast farther or just recognize that it is good that the fish have some "safety zones" where they can rest unharrassed by all of the fly flingers.

One of the most important things to remember is stream side etiquette. It is "always" wise to go behind someone....water permitting. If there isn't enough water, simply ask the guy or gal. Let them know there isn't enough water, and you will be floating right in front of them..... real close, so that you don't put down their targets. If they shoot, well then duck! or shoot back.
