On Water Teaching DVDs...

bigduhon

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
I've been watching (and rewatching) Trout Bums Volumes 1 and 2, and thoroughly enjoy them. However, I realize that I could use a good how to dvd that gets into such things as reading the water, setting up drifts, mending, etc...

I have a Cabelas' DVD and an older one by a gentleman who's name I cannot remember, but these are both rather outdated. I'm looking for something that I can watch to get a good feel for where and how I should be setting up drifts, and that is kind of detailed in it's teachings.

Any help is appreciated.

Check out Borger's videos for specific types of fly fishing. I find using Amazon.com to be most useful. You get reviews by people regarding videos and can just type fly fishing and get tons of titles. I know lefty has some. My favorite on casting is Joan Wulff's DVD.

You also want to check out the serises of instructional videos by I fly fish tv. They get some of the big names to do intructional videos on everything from steelhead fishing to pike fishing.

If you are a member of net flix you can find some of the series online.

Also Joe Humphries has a bunch of videos that can be helpfull.. I will let thesib fill you in on those.

I went to Amazon and read some reviews. One DVD jumped out at me:

"Successful Fly Fishing Strategies with Gary LaFontaine and Dick Sharon"

Anyone have this or have comments on it.

I bundled it with Joan Wulff's Casting Video (I need help here too), and got it all for less than $55. I'm thinking that was a pretty good deal.

Check out Rick Hafele's "Anatomy of a trout stream". Lots of good info!

For pure entertainment there is nothing better than "Feeding Time" . It is by Tom Bie who puts out the Drake magazine.

I have it. One of my favorites. I think most if not all of it was filmed out west though. What I liked about it was how they explain how to read the water before getting in it. It covers a smattering of fishing situations such as how to approach fishing pocket water, undercut banks, freestones, nymphing, using indicators, streamers, dry fly techniques, etc.
