Hey Guys,

My name is Cory, the developer of The Hatch. I just wanted to note that the hatch charts aren't user contributed, but are gathered from many sources.

Users are more than welcome and encouraged to recommend streams and rivers and I will do my best to compile hatch charts for them. I live on the west coast and fish primarily in Oregon, so my knowledge of the other 49 states is fairly limited.

The entomology photo's have been contributed by users thus far, and if someone has photo's, I'm more than happy to watermark and credit the photos.

Thanks for your interest in the app, and as I said, please feel free to recommend more streams and I'll see what I can do!

Any chance you'll be porting this for a REAL phone like the Blackberry?
:)

We also have an occasional hatch or 2 here in NJ!

Boy I don't know about porting it. I don't have any experience with developing for the blackberry or windows mobile. In fact, this iPhone project has been a huge learning experience for me.

I have the following NJ rivers:

Big Flat
Musconetcong
Paulinskill
Pequest
Ramapo
Raritan (South)

Dont worry about the Crackberry. IPhone is the future...everything else is just race for second place:)

mbwmn,

Dropping my Blackberry in the water was the best thing that happened to it! I mean, I really liked it because I didn't know how good the iphone was. Now that I have the iphone, I am amazed at all that it can do! I am going to get the app. I am curious to see how it works. I noticed that there were other fly fishing apps as well. Pretty cool if you ask me... fly fishing for your phone!

I can see it now, alarms and phones going off all over the streams while folks check their phones trying to figure out what the small yellow fly on the end of their nose is!

"Jeez, I wonder what ringtone I'll use for the Sulphur hatch?"

Soon enough there will be an Ipod hatch as we see those tiny little buggers skipping across the river as if to be laying eggs.

When I fish in lower Lancaster County, PA near the Peach Bottom Atomic Energy plant; I worked out a deal with Exelon, the local power authority so I don't need to carry my iPhone.

One blast on the warning sirens means the Olives are hatching, two blasts means the Sulphurs are hatching, three blasts means get the "F" out of Dodge and start swallowing your Potassium Iodide pills. ;)

another marketing company. they happen to be marketing mp3 players and phones fairly well; computers...well...maybe not so much.

reminds me of another american marketing company that sometimes markets motorcycles...but mostly overpriced clothing...

let's see how far this thread goes now!

Cpratt,

Kudos to you on your iphone programming. I fiddled w/ Palm stuff for a bit before I got sucked into WindowsMobile (light years behind Palm, and not nearly as stable as anything else on the market). I've been very happy w/ my recent defection to Blackberry. I had considered a Palm Pre but prefer to let others sort out the new WebOS.

My only programming these days consists of writing vbs scripts for WinServers to compensate for users shortcomings, like leaving their desktops logged on for 2-3 weeks at a time!

Good luck w/ your next project!

i suspect it may be a few weeks before wii flyfishing gets released...think about it, you won't have to leave the house...

...and i thought they charged three times as much for half the hardware because they had more marketing/sales force than programming/ r+d in the US...
oh wait...they DO have more marketing and sales staff... and they DO charge too much...
someone needs to keep convincing all the OSx usrs that it's different and better than RedHat...

hhmmm, i'll need to add a new cert to the repetoire..

If you have all those, nice work. I have most of the list, except Cisco and nortel ones, including ACSA.

I've always been a mac guy at heart, but also spend most of my time writing vbs scripts for random things as well :crap: Oh well, this has been a fun project.

All those certs are wonderful..You keep working hard and you will continue to make the sales and marketing guys Rich:) Thats right without sales and marketing you have nothing to program cause no one is buying your stuff.

Apple has way more developers than sales and marketing folks. How do you think all those apps in the appstore get built. They just done have to pay them a salary and benefits which is just north of pure genius. Guess who thought of that...It wasn't a programmer

The cert game is tough cause you constantly have to keep updating them to keep them current. Cisco makes a lot of money with their Cert program and as the number of certified individuals go up...The average pay drops. Guess how many CCIE's are unemployed at the moment. You dont even want to know how many CCNPs are unemployed especially if you dont have a current CCNP. Start learning the other side of the business you are in if you want to be more relevant. I now return you to to your regular programming.

BTW dont take offense. I know getting certified takes a lot of work. Its not meant as a slight. Just friendly advice from someone who is in technology business and has been for quite some time.

You young geeks know nothing.

I was programing and servicing computers before you were out of your diapers.

That's good. :hysterica

I wonder how many guys here know what a Bulletin Board was?

yeah, that's where geeks stole time from the goverment bandwidth to trade fly recipies, right?

ah, the days of USENET...now we have to go to web-based forums intead...

cdog, DOS -0.1? is that where it all started for you? was there Life Before DOS?:)

I had training in Windows For Workgroups. eww. ugly...

.

i don't have them all. i'll be working on adding a few over the winter !

i honestly had no idea that there were testing standards for Mac. it makes sense that they would want to qualify their geeks too, though. it ensures that
a) the tech is qualified
or
b) the tech spent enough money at boot camp and was able to eliminate the wrong answers on the multiple choice test questions

i suspect i'm indirectly helping to make you rich?
i hope you'll return the favor if we ever meet onstream?
:)

i left sales positions for tech because i liked tech. ruined everything!
(kidding. it hasn't gotten boring yet because it constantly changes.)

Ahhhhhaaa yes WWG. Those were the good ole days. But, what about Windows 3.0 and 3.1???

Did you ever work with Enable? What a nightmare. It was to big to work on our dual floppy systems, so we had to install a 10 Megabyte hard drive in all of our computers.

Yes there was life before DOS. OMG! Did I say that! I don't think most people today even know what DOS is the abbreviation for. I don't even remember what we called it back in 1979 when I got my start in the industry, but it wasn't DOS. I'll have to dig out some old field manuals. I do know that it was developed by General Dynamics in 1958. In 1980 the USAF sent me to IBMDOS school. It was so confusing at first. lol

So are you hiring? I hardly spend any of my workday f*cking off on internet posting boards, really....hardly any at all....
:fart:

damn, ARPA!

Ahhhhhaaa But, what about Windows 3.0 and 3.1???

"Integrating Windows for Workgroups In A Mixed Environment"
I can still remember the cover to that hardcopy (printed!) instruction manual. <shivers>
The "Mixed Environment" was NT4Server and Novell 5.1. That was a great combination!

No Enable.

I started working for auto dealers, and remember large (16" dia?), round disks enclosed in a beige plastic housing that had to be swapped out of a floor-standing rack of several other discs. It was installed in a bathroom w/ a window AC that kept it at 60F! We upgraded several dumb terminals to the special new amber display (instead of the green)
I also remeber the first AS400 being delivered, and trying to integrate an IBM PC2 (IBM DOS!) though a modem because they were on seperate floors. 2400Baud I think?

My bone hurts now. I think it's time for my nap....
