the sad old dog with no friends
Finally, after days of trying, dealing with weather, uncooperative schedules, and a 13 month old changing her napping, I was able to get out to Van Campen's Brook this morning! Parked at Millbrook Village and walked for about 30 minutes up stream. Started my day at this pool IMG_4114.jpg

I was rewarded for my efforts by this handsome fella, caught on a white streamer that I promptly lost!IMG_4113.jpghttp://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=2299&stc=1&d=1231722265

As I was walking with snowshoes, I was not a good example of the stealth that is required of a person when they are fishing a WTS so he was the only friend that I made today, but he did break the skunk that has been hanging around for that last few trips. I fished my way back down to my car with two misses in two different pools, and snapped a couple more picturesIMG_4120.jpg

All in all it was a good day out, and I am glad I was able to do it!

Not sure how to post the pictures the way you all do them but I don't think it came out too badly!

thanks guys....it has been crazy, I normally don't post up pictures, but had been inspired by the likes of BRKTRT and others with their reports....as luck would have it the site crashes the night after i put up my post....oh well!

Nice pics. Although this stream is pretty well known, Id be careful of listing the names of ANY wild trout streams. You might see more people out there next time, and you can never tell how many readers of your posts have yet to learn of the stream. Just my rule of thumb for keeping them wild.

Agreed. If other anglers are interested, let them find it themselves. Why should you do all the work for them?

Wasn't like I was drawing a detailed map to the spots...anyone with half a brain could find it for themselves...and for that matter the State posts that is is a wild trout stream on the web, and right at the banks of the stream....don't worry I won't post up when i go there again

Don't sweat it, some of the people here have said "there are no secret spots in New Jersey". And some of the same people here are very protective of their usual fishing grounds. This topic of revealing where you fished has produced many heated discussions. It all boils down to is don't post directions and sometimes names of some of the streams and post a report/pictures. However, knowing which streams names/directions are allowable is the key. Usually that information is handled by PM to a trusted person or friend.

Now, if you know could you PM directions on how to find the Delaware?:D

True a lot of things are posted on the web but once you put up pictures with names, it tends to draw more interest.

Such places will never be crowded(although just one other angler can spoil a day for you) and no they aren't secrets, but I still think its best to keep names out as a precaution. Most anglers enjoy photos period - of both big rivers and small streams/of both wild and hatchery trout - and appreciate you for sharing them while a few bad eggs will belittle you for being selfish and not giving up a name. I personally don't care what others think(never have) so you shouldn't either. Do as you feel is right.

Skimmy...
haven't seen you for a while....was wondering if you would weigh in at some point. As for the posting, well, we will have to see how I feel the next time I hit that spot....I do like posting up pics, and sharing my experiences, so I won't let the bs stop me, but in the interest of not hearing for every tom DICK and harry about the name of where I fish, the names probably wont be up there!

Just as long as you PM me with the names, driving times and distance, choice parking areas, and the best pub in the area that serves Corona.. You'll still be ok in my book.

while i definitely respect everyone wanting to keep their personal fav fishing spot secret, i equally respect someone who wants to post pics and places of their experience and share it with the community here on neff. however, i also see that if there were 1 or 2 other anglers who enjoyed the solace and felt that was jeapordized by his posting they have due claim to feeling a bit annoyed. all in all, it was a great post, and thanks for sharing. when i finally catch my first fish im gonna freaking google map the damn place so any other beginners such as myself can go there. hell if i could hook a fish there any other newbie could as well

Ive yet to really explore that section, one day i will have to venture upstream a bit.

Say the names or hints to streams as you see fit. Im sure when you run into a real gem you will want to keep it a bit of mystery, but pictures are always more than welcome!

hearing for every tom DICK and harry about the name of where I fish

Whoa.. a little strong. Check out BRK TRT's posts.. always wild trout streams that im sure you can find listed in some publication somewhere, but I've never once seen him post a name. It was a mere suggestion.

He also lives in Connecticut, so what would it matter anyway....like someone said there are no private waters in new jersey....I am done defending myself for posting names and pictures....get a grip everyone! It is on National Park Service land, look it up, the state posts it on the web and streamside...this is a ridiculous attack for telling everyone where I caught ONE FREAKIN FISH!:mad::mad::mad:

I was on my way back to the computer to throw a little more fuel on the fire, and then I read that....thanks ol' boy! But I am going to do it anyway....BigBow, do you even know where I am talking about, do you fish there? If NO, why do you care, I am not destroying the integrity of the fishery with one post, nor am I the kind of person that is a slob, I don't keep fish ever, I don't leave trash anywhere, infact I pick up the shit that other people levae around. If your answer is yes, then I can understand why you would want to protect that place...but really, I mean over a post an a fly fishing website, where we are all for the most part gentlemen, and enjoy reading about another fisherman's experience, whether he posts the names of the stream or not!

Re-read my post pal.. I said in the future you MAY want to ommit names of wild trout streams. Do what you want. Im not about to get into it w you on a computer and you're blowing this up. I've fished there many times. I complemented your photos and gave a suggestion.. take it or leave it. PEACE

Suggestion noted.....not trying to blow anything up.....no need to beat the all ready dead horse any further! :)
