Musky Report

GARYB

Catch & Release Wild Trout
Yesterday fished the musky, first time in a few years. Forgot what a nice stream it is, water level was good and clear. Saw some caddis, heavy at
times but not on the water. nothing rising and didn't see any hendrickson's either. Caught a bunch of rainbows and one nice brookie, all on bh pheasant tail
nymphs 14. Dfinitely coming back.

Rusty,

Saw a lot of fish guts in the Heritage section, ironic with catch and release signs all over. Guess people can't read or don't care.

In the lower pool, correct? I saw a bunch on Saturday during the clean up. Yeah, I can't enforce rules more restrictive than the Division's rules, only ask that they be followed. Some anglers just don't care. But we stock it heavily, and it holds over fish and has wild fish in it, so it's OK in the end.

I went over to the tca on mon. Hard to believe that I never fished it before since I lived in nj my whole life. There were tons of grannomscoming off and many risers. I ended getting a bunch of brookies a few bows and one nice brown,I think he was wild about 16 inches. I really liked the water guess it was a little low though. No need to nymph the fish rose the whole time I was there

Mike,
Glad you got to see the Muskie - it will be better after stream improvements in June. Also glad to hear you got into risers. Saturday after the Muskie clean-up the hatches were great, but the weren't looking up. They have been looking up over the hill in the SBR, but your's is the first report I have heard of solid dry fly action on the Musky.

Saw the guts in the main pool and down by the fast run below the riffles.

I fished Point Mountain TCA saturday. Not a single fish rise while there ... few caddis and some crane flies.

That didn't stop the fun though had on hare's ears and beadhead flashbacks. A few on soft hackles as well.

Same report for the Gorge on Sunday.. nymphed all afternoon.

Hi, Rusty I'm the mailman from Sparta. I fell out of Ricks truck..My fault hipboot got caught in grass and pulled me out of truck....Before we started stocking on Friady we (ED andI ) stopped 2 guys from fishing by the Pennwell dam..They were from Jersey city and said they did not know the regs. That the stream is closed until 5:00PM. We also saw afew other people fishing during the day. I think Rick stopped someone from fishing..All people have to do is read the signs but people are lazy to read...Bill

We put up no fewer than 3 stocking signs at the Penwell dam. It's impossible to miss them on the trees. There is never a good excuse for poaching. But it happens all the time and the perps always claim ignorance as if that somehow makes it all OK. :crap:

Had a fun afternoon in the rain today at point mountain... fish were crushing a Crane Fly Larva i had trailing a heavy hares ear bead head. Only pick up a few on the Hares Ear, a couple dozen on the Larva.

Tightlines Productions has a great video how to tie one.

Crane Fly Larva..aka Walt's Worm. I tied a few on a leaded size 14 with Rainbow Sow Scud dubbing and glossy pink thread.. hands down one of the ugliest fly i've ever tied. Couldn't keep them off the hook Sat->Sun. The more chewed on and beat up the fly got the better the takes. Lot of snap offs and snags come with fishing these so bring a few along.

Also stopped by the pequest saturday morning to say hi to a friend. The Worm Dunk Crowd officially owns that TCA... freakin' shame too. i was out of there in 1hr.

I fished the Musky today...did well with a bead head bird's nest, size 16, fished deep......all nice healthy rainbows that hit hard...one pushed 18 inches. No rises, plenty of oviposting caddis...and midges....fished from noon until 2:30.....nice river..I should go there more as it is a mile from my house...
I LOVE FISHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I'm sure it's laziness

I was on the musky Sunday, fish struck a #12 BH wooly didn't get the hook set, saw the body flash, body seemed mostly light in color.
tried sucker spawn, zebra midge, bh pheasant tail also but nothing hit them.

Was at Pt Mnt from 10-2 green caddis larva fished deep. Game warden was patrolling. I'd like to see them there more.

Point Mountain:
Saturday- After the downpour fish were taking LaFontaine Deep Sparkle & Soft Hackles
Sunday- Water was up and murky. bead head bird's nest and flashbacks were the only thing i got to work.

Sidenote: I also stumbled across a couple poachers on Sunday.... this guy and his wife fishing live minnows above the first set of rapids at the bend (right below were the river flats out for a couple hundred yards). Guy had a creel bag of dead stockies, nothing over 15". I explained to him (in a nice way) that he was in a TCA and what the rules were. He acted surprised, said they were from south jersey and the bait place up the road told them to fish there, and they also fished there saturday night and nobody said anything.... explains why that hole wasn't producing any action this weekend.

They didn't seem upset just confused, like the Gazillion posted Fish and Game Reg. signs were difficult to read. They packed up and left, and i told them at least 10 other bait fishing spots up 57 they should try-out. freakin' momos.

Fished the Musky today.....Caddis hatching in the early afternoon, did well with Iris caddis fished with a shot, not one rise.....then the caddis stopped and so did the fish......left the water at 2:30.... get back out tonight, but I doubt it....

didn't see anyone else....AWESOME!!
