Moffitt System?

Karel

sleep, eat, flyfish, repeat
So there is this "brand new technique", called the Moffitt System (moffittangling.com), looking similar to bead fishing. It claims to be more fish friendly etc....

Did anybody try this, is it worth the effort? At first sight, looks like another gimmick to lure $$$ out of our pockets.

There was a big discussion about this on another forum. I haven't had a chance to read the article, but from what I've heard, you end up foul hooking more fish than anything. With the bead fishing, you have it no more than 2" from the hook. I was told the Moffitt System runs the hook almost a foot behind the hookless fly.

Wow,
You guys are so cynical. My first question, "Is it legal?". I know on the Salmon in NYS it is illegal to use more than one fly. If the fly has no hook does it count as a fly. Is is legal to have a bare hook several inches below the fly? The other questions I'd have that did not seem to be answered in the promo, is how many takes are missed. I miss alot of hits on drys, it is hard to imagine I would hook those fish with the hook a foot away. Now for the positives. I think the loop to loop and threader system for the flies is very attractive. Being able to separate the size of the fly from the hook and having soft flexible flies is also attractive. Finally, up to 40% of the cost of a fly(if you are tying your own) is the hook. Thus if I could tie my flies on pieces of rubber the cost would plummet. I also liked the fact that the promo is c+r oriented, and promotes minimal handling of the fish. Might get in the way of people that have to put their catch in a snow bank to take pics to post in their trip reports. Then agian, maybe we all could use "file footage" for the obligatory fish pics. toodles,Frogge.

I did some research around here (Colo) and it indeed would be illegal. if you hook the fish anywhere than the inside of the mouth it's considered as per the DOW snagging and that's illegal - UNLESS you are fishing for Kokes.

Looks to me that your "Lineing" the fish. And even with a circle hook, I bet that alot of fish get snagged by the Trailer.

And fly's tied on rubber bands,:rofl:what a joke. Deffinatly just another gimmick to empty peoples wallets
