Welcome back to the new NEFF. Take a break from Twitter and Facebook. You don't go to Dicks for your fly fishing gear, you go to your local fly fishing store. Enjoy!

Limecrest / Warbase JCT

LITCH

Fishizzle, I use worms but I'm looking to upgrade!
Driving through the area of Warbase Jct, I've seen little streams and stocking signs. Just getting back into flyfishing and was wondering what success other might have had in this area.

The area around Limecrest and Warbasse Jct contains a TCA and has been known to hold over some big fish as well as have some natural production. There has been some recent controversy in the area as a new owner purchased the Limecrest Quarry and shut the pumps off which affected water flow into the East Branch of the Paulinskill. I've heard that the pumps are back on but don't know if this is true. Either way the fish had to be affected during the shut down. I would expect there are still some good holdover fish in the area. Follow the old railroad bed in the TCA area and if you're willing to walk a bit off the beaten path, you'll probably find some good fish. Be careful as much of the lowland around the stream is swampy and you're likely to step in a few sinkholes if you're not paying attention.

Thanks for the reply- swung by there this morning to give it a shot. by the way you are correct about the sink holes, up to my knee in mud.... Have to explore the area a little more. Since this is TCA, I guess it's okay to fish even prior to opening day. (no shut down)

Dave- I'm a little more than rusty with my casting, but made progress as the morning wore on. No fish, but I probably spooked them with my efforts.
The water level was a little high and the clarity was poor. We had some warm days and the run off from the snow melting did not help.
Funny thing though, while I was tying a nymph on I happened to look up and a small beaver just swam by me. We looked at each other and just went back to what we were doing.

I might go back up tomorrow and give it another shot.

Take care-
Litch
