KLG Today Real Sunny

Caught this guy on a Muddler Minnow I love streamer strikes . It seems that when the sun was right over head they weren't realy hitting. Does the sun play a big factor in where I should focus my fishing. Should I concentrate on Shaded areas.:toilet-humor:

Nice fish!! Love those streamer hook ups!

As for fishing in the sun, I cannot really elaborate on it too much. I have found though certain rivers fish better in shade or dirty/highwater or sun light. for instance, the Ausable River in NY fishes the best middle of the day, BRIGHT sunlight. As for the gorge, I have found it fishes better before and after high sun. Remeber, in the sunlight, you as a fishermen stand out much more. And, if you can a trout, normally, they can see you.

Ill be at the Gorge tomorow morn. Rain or shine. Packed today?

Darn,

Well im going to fish right near the posted section. Seems alot of ppl shy away from that area. Well see though...Was the LOWER section, near the private waters packed as well? hope not. lol

Trout feed more actively during periods of low light. Dawn, dusk, and overcast, pea soup kind of days are all preferable over bright sunny blue-bird days. IMHO. Especially true the later into spring we get. In the winter though nice sunny days will heat up the water enough to raise the temp a few degrees and can start the fish feeding.

busy during the week, I was thinking of going monday, guess I will have to wait a couple of weeks to go there

half the state will be there with their spin gear and worms and power bait like every year for the first week of the season. good time to take a walk in the upper sections to find some peace and quiet. hopefully the rain will keep most of them at home.

JM, The KLG has been a Trout Conservation Area for over 5 years...No bait allowed, even the first two weeks of the season...Spin Fisherman can use artificials (spinners, spoons, jigs, trout magnets, etc...) year round...Check out the Division website for the detailed regulations..

bkill, i was responding to kingcrab's post about the flatbrook. i am aware of all the other regulations in the state. sorry for the misunderstanding.

I think He was talking about that terrible thing they do @ the BFB every year

The Gorge was the same way when it was Fly Fishing Only...I still remember the debates with the state when it was converted to a TCA...The elimination of the 2 week bait invasion and decreased bag limits was the big sell feature...

imo the TCA rules r much better even though they allow spin fishing, the fact that there is no break in the regs is huge. the flatbrook gets destroyed for those first 10 days.

I just dont get it? Why does 95% percent of spin fishermen seem to always carry a creel, and make it a goal to fill it EVERY time out? Dont get me wrong, I see plenty of "disguised" meat hunters out there too, with the worm on their size 12 prince nymph. Maybe there financially in trouble and need to put food on the table, or maybe they are greedy, or IDK! I just hate seeing the BFB get raped EVERY season for the first 9 days. But where am I to talk, the meat hunters out there purchase the same license and trout stamp we do, so we can't stop them from keeping fish. I just wish everyone did not have to take their limit every single time out. Sorry for the rant...

Some guy asked me today why I choose colors on flies because fish are color blind

Me: why did you choose that red lure?
The guy: Bass fishing magazine said it would work.
Me: Why did bass fishing magazine say it would work?
The guy: Probably because fish are not colorblind.

Musky fished well today. Got some good dry fly action in around 2. BWO was pretty decent. When that slowed down, I went for the black bugger and landed a few nice bows in a pool near Penwell bridge.

I stopped by spruce run near James Toyota where the river runs into it. Looked in and saw about 6-8 hybrid stripers. A few over 28"

Skip,

Black buggers seem to do the trick on the holdover bows on the Musky... How jammed was it today? Hope you kissed those fish goodbye, because after tomorow, theyll be in some one tooth wonders creel, getting ready to be thrown on the barby....Some dont realize if you put back, they will be there next time, which makes NJ such a great fishery....

I was at the Musky today and the stretch I wanted to fish was a zoo. I arrived there and met my Dad and a friend of his, they had been fishing since morning. These other guys leave the spot I wanted to hop in....so I hop in it. I start hooking fish and these two guys come up and jump between my Dad and I. Now I grew up fishing the Beaverkill were people had etiquette and would ask politely if they even thought they might be encroaching upon your water.

Well this dude came within 15 ft of me....I continued to cast like I wanted and didn't apologize for my lengthy drifts b/c I was there first. Even before that a spin dude starts fishing below me WHERE I was casting....it was like people had never heard of stream etiquette today. Not only did this fly guy get too close but he was an arrogant ****. I had landed maybe 8 fish and lost maybe 5 or 6 in this stretch in the course of an hour and half and then while I walking out he says "Have any indicators?" Expecting he needed to borrow one I said "I might" he says "Here take one you're missing hits" I said "I'm missing hits???? no thanks I have indicators"....I'm all for corrective criticism but this guy had the gall to tell me I'm fishing poorly, when I was hooking plenty of fish and he was being an ____ on the stream.

All throughout the time I was there whenever I would move a bit, he would make sure he moved closer to the "better" water I was fishing. Then he brags to his friend how he's catching fish and how it's due to 25 years of experience. I just started nymphing w/o an indicator two weeks ago and I caught more than him. I know it's not about numbers but I had to say it....ok sorry for the rant....I just can't wait to go to NY tomorrow.

You should of told that guy that he would sure look funny laughing with no F---ing teeth. I hate rude people!:finger:

I have encountered more ARROGANT arse holes ont he Musky in two times I have been out, than a whole season... Its absolutely ABSURD. THere are some guys out there that wont even say "hey" back to you. It really pisses me off. And then the guys who "dont know" what they are hitting on, or what kind of "fish" they are, meanwhile they are standing right below, catching fish left and right, dressed up name brand outerwear...they damn well know what they are catching...Fly fishing is all about comradary...Oh well...No sense in getting upset over it... Burt, Ill be fishing Monday/Tuesday.. We should hook up and hit some water

We should hook up and hit some water

Yeah I'm down...we should do some fly fishing too...sorry corny couldn't resist.

Depending on whether I'm lab assisting or not I may be able to get out Monday...not sure yet. Must be nice you can fish whenever...enjoy it.

Burt,

Obviously this does not happen every spring, however due to my injury, and my leave of absence from school (disability services hooked me up with online courses) I have been taking advantage of it to the FULLEST! hehe I kinda feel bad. Not really. lol Let me know what day works best for you.

KC, hit up the water down by the private section. Let me know how you did. Might have to sneak to the gorge on Sunday morn with my headlamp on to secure a spot. Good luck in the A.M.
