How often do you clean you line?

Floating line... I find myself dressing the line on the stream about every half hour when it starts to mend poorly.

I wash it in the sink and dress it probably every 2nd or 3rd outing. Something I picked up from watching my dad as a kid.

Thoughts?

if you need to dress the line every half hr you need a new line..ive never ever heard of anyone dressing a line that often..that actually will most likly make it sink more..once a week or 2 weeks depending on how much you fish is what i do..i think just cleaning the line is best..leave the dressing for trouser trouts salads.. i think he likes blue cheese

What are you cleaning it with? Im pretty shure alot of soaps will take the outer coating off.

All ive used is hot water and a washcloth.

Ive had the same SA GPX line for about 4 years, Its just starting to loose its boyancy a tad..

Maybe it's time to replace that ol' Cortland 333.......

I do have some 25 year old 444. I reversed it maybe eight years back, but I don't use it often these days...

I fill the sink halfway and put in a dab of the hippy dish soap that my wife buys.

It's Orvis Wonderline; it's a year old. I fished it quite a bit though (at least once a week and often 3x). I have another spool I picked up at the Orvis outlet for $12 a couple weeks back. Maybe it's time to swap. Now that I think about it, the Wonderline series had a very brief run...

That's why they called it Wonderline.....it's a wonder it floats at all. :crap:

wonder line?? that line fuckin sucks ass crack..i use it to stake my tomato plants..and it doesnt even do that good..my friend get urself a sci angler gpx taper or one of the rio lines..by nxt year they will have a few lines for every specific fish out there..the industry with flylines is out of control..too many choices. i can see it being confusing for sumone just starting..plan on spending over 60$ for a good line..but i think alot of guys overlook the importance of a good line..its a huge advantage

I have 2 Cortland 444 SL Lines that are over 20 yrs old -- They are still in great shape -- I just take care of them -- After every season I take the lines and with a very mild dish soap solution and soak the lines for 15 mins in a warm water bath -- Then I Rinse them with clean water Luke warm -- After they are completely dry -- I dress them with FLy Line Dressing called "SUPER SILCK" they dont to them best of my knowledge make this anymore. (TOO BAD ITS GREAT STUFF) -- SOmetimes I need to dress them again during the season but I have never had a problem doing this and Like I said earlier the Lines are in Outstanding Shape.

Someone mentioned spending at least 60 dollars on a fly line and I do agree -- YES you can buy a 20 dollar fly line and in 2 years you will be buying another 20 dollar fly line and so on -- If you spend the bucks NOW your actually saving money in the long run -- And as You can see by my post, if you take care of them you will get a lot of years fishing out of them.

Peace
Dan
