hey guys i am coming up to nj in march for my fiances bridal shower and me and a friend are gnna take a lil camping trip somehwhere in north jersey Pa, or Ny. was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on where to go....it will be march 17-18 which is before the 3 week mark before opening day that your not supposed to fish... we were thinking the big flat brook but also were thinking about some where in pa thats not to far from us in central nj. and maybe if we get real adventurous go up to the beaverkill. does anyone have some info on what the fishing is like mid march and what kinda flies to use.. im new to fly fishing. only been doing it since august., i had been to the gorge at halloween and caught a few nice ones on dry flies and a few up stream from the gorge on worms butany help would b much appreciated, richs 1st trout otf.jpg

Mid march the fishing is tough. I suggest you look for some wild trout streams in nj or pa. In march, you can fish the no kill sections of the beaver kill, but it will be brutal in the catskills.

that early the waters cold and the bugs are small use pheasant tail nymphs hares ear zug bugs and wooley buggers probably wont see to much surface activity but you never know....

I agree with going the NJ/PA WTS route which is where I usually go in mid-March. However, if the weather is still cold or the waters flooded, i would keep the Lehigh Valley limestoners in my back pocket for some almost guaranteed surface action with Little BWOs and midges. I am not certain where you are coming up from, but the hot, dry Summer last year was rough on the trout in the NJ/PA/NY area, with the native brook trout apparently most impacted according to fishermen reports, including my own. You may want to consider this when looking for a WTS.
