Who you boobs think they are:

So go ahead, pair these guys up with your favorite fly fishing celebrities.

Let's face it, there are no "celebrities" in our sport because our "sport" doesn't exist. Do we really think our you-know-what doesn't stink? Do we think anyone the world over cares about fly fishing let alone the would-be celebs in our sport? Of course not:crap::)

To think that fly fishing has celebrities of any note is like saying bug exterminators have celebrities in their field of work. It just doesn't matter.

Thanks Rusty.

How you feeling?

For a guy that got split open like a coconut, I feel great. Better than I have in a couple of years. Started week 3 of 6 of cardiac rehab this morning and it's good to get back in the gym. Although I don't recommend this as the reason to go back to a gym:crap:

I think Rusty hit it on the head... but if you're going to make a list, include people like George Daniel, Tom Rosenbauer, Cathy & Barry Beck, Conway Bowman, John Stewart,April Vokey, Lefty Kreh, A.K. Best, John Gierach, Steve Rajeff, Dave Whitlock

The last thing I think most fly fishers would want is celebrity.....Just imagine..your out on the stream, spot a pod of rising fish, you stalk them ever so carefully, they don't notice you (or that you are a celebrity). You cast, your first misses the mark, and then Vinnie Gumbats and his junk magazine reading buddies see you and start with

"hey isn't that the guy from the thing, hey buddy, what are you using, could you take a picture with us, will you sign my hat".....

Fuck Off....!:)

This, coming from a Celebrity Chef....

This list is clearly made up because I am not named in it.

Where did you get the names for this list of celebrities?

No doubt, the list is fair, although a few of my fellow celebrities on the list could be trimmed, like fat from a prime porterhouse steak.

Fished an Iso/ sulpher hatch with a guy one time about 10-12 years ago and he was killing them. I didn't realize the fish were on Iso's and the guy was nice enough to call me over, gave me a fly, and we both proceeded to catch fish for the next few hours. I said thanks as I was leaving the stream I said goodbye and found out it was Tom Rosenbauer, which then sparked my memory from a book I had of his on my shelf. Great guy and a cool day on the water.

Very nice words for Rosenbaum.

Any stories about the other celebs?

You've met me, and I'm pretty sure I put you on to a fish or two.

I don't think there are any celebrities in fly fishing. Legends and respected talented people and authors but nothing resembling the 21st Century celebrity. Many of us have had the opportunity to meet and fish with some of the fly fishers we admire and just about every one I met was unassuming, friendly, and did not catch any more fish than the rest of us.

Celebrities are manufactured by their managers and then shoved down our throats by the media. Many have no or very little talent - Besides making a porn flick for the internet what has Kim Kardashian done? And for those that have some talent, am I supposed to care about everything these people do from their makeup, to their affairs, to how they raise their children or what they eat?

We all have current and past people in fly fishing that we admire. Thankfully, none of them are celebrities.

In my experience, the most experienced guys I've fished with catch less fish than the guy thats 5-6 years into the sport and fishing like animals sunup to sunrise. When guys have fished for 25+ years, they aren't the dudes stalking every riffle and seam trying to rack up numbers. They're the dude chilling on the bank waiting to see if that nice fish comes back up a second time(and maybe just to see if the fish rises again, not to actually take a cast), or the guy in the boat letting the other guy take first shot at the fish.

That difference, my younger friend, is the difference between having too much testosterone and being too old to care:)

I wasn't mocking it, just an observation. For the old guy in the boat, usually he gets the biggest fish of the day anyway after he finally decides to get up and steal the best and last fish of the day at close range gulping anything that comes to it.

The topic is fly fishing celebrities.

If you're not talking about me, you're off topic.

Speaking of you. I just realized your avatar is a picture of a turd with a shot of man juice on it. I noticed the captain's hat on there also. Does that make you captain of the butt pirate brigade?

I'm gonna focus on the positive...

Your post is on topic.

Thank you, Tobias.

There are celebrities in fly fishing. They do not exist in the context of this thread. The true celebrities are the humble unsung type.

The person that that is willing to take a kid out fly-fishing.

A person is catching fish. Someone asks him; what are you using? He cuts the fly off and hands it to him.

The fisherman that takes the time to pick up the trash along the stream bank.

People like that are the true celebrities.
