Fishing report (general)

Scott

Salmo salar Sebago finatic
I got a out to do a little fishing yesterday. I fished a small feeder steam to a NJ reservoir. Lots of native browns, and a few stocked fish.

I had the stream to myself! I forgot to bring a bag with me, and I feel guity having left the bait containers and beer cans behind. Next time I'll make a point to remember!

Anyway: I caught scads of the natives, most about 6", one "bruiser" was 9". There was no rise, no bubbles, he just sucked it in. I though it had got wet & gone under, but felt weight & set the hook.

I also caught a nice brookie holdover - no new stockie, he was fresh & spunky, lots of color, and nice clean sharp fins. A real beauty.

I also hooked into a stockie RBT, maybe 0.4 miles upstream from the nearest stocking point. A fish with places to go...

I was using a #18 hybrid nymph, #18 parachute adams, and a #18 Sulphur CDC emerger. About 1/2 were taken on the Adams, the others were taken on the emerger & nymph.

Hatches: Tan caddis, about a #18-20, clouds of midges, a couple of BWO's, a sulphur or two, and a tiny yellow crane fly, almost a #16. I thought it was a sulphur at first, but then I caught one.

What a great little stream - I'd never fished it before. Very little algae, pretty fish, and solitude... although work called me 4 freakin' times. Next time I leave the cell phone in the truck & wear a watch instead!

Next time maybe I'll get an earlier start, and get farther upstream.

I could, but that would just spoil the mystery...

OK, well, I believe in sharing the resource - E-mail me & I'll share, but nooo way will I dish the location on a public forum, even one inhabited by such fine & upstanding sportspsople such as this one.

And you have to promise to pick up some trash!

Oh, and I should mention that the brookie was 12", which was a nice surprise when I was expecting wee brownies.

Scott,
Iwould have emailed you from the start however you have your email disabled in your profile. I do promise to pick up as much as I can carry trashwise.

Nice report Scott... did I see this right that you caught a bow, browns and a brookie.... All three species? Nice.

Now that you mention it, it was my first "hat trick" in a long time. I didn't know I had my e-mail disabled. It's flyfish257@ hotmail.com
