I'm not sure if I posted this here yet but... This guy (Robert E. De Filippis) backed his trailer into my car; after doing so, he immediately parked approximately 100 yards away from the incident. He didn't leave a note or try to contact me until a mutual friend advised him that the incident was caught on camera. He claimed he had no idea he hit me but, watch his car shake and listen to the noise it creates. Let's have your opinion.

Instead of reporting this guy to the PA State police (which I'm finding out I might have to do, I accepted the fact that we had some mutual friends and maybe he'd try to make mends. His insurance company paid out over 4k (thankfully I have a camera in my car). I'm asking for under 1k for my vehicle's diminished car value. He's giving me a hard time. PA law states that hit drivers receive a minimum of 30 days in the can for this type of incident I think I've been very nice and patient.

Essentially, I'm looking for a small amount of compensation and I'll remove this video from my Youtube channel. It's under $1000.00. This has caused me a great inconvenience for 2 weeks while my car was in the body shop.

Some of you are friends with, Robert De Fillipis Hit and Run.

You can read about what this guy did on my YouTube page posted above. I haven't pressed charges yet, or filed a hit-and-run police report yet but, I may.

Let's have your opinions.

This "guy" appears to operate a veterinarian clinic out of, Roseland, NJ. I wouldn't trust someone like this with my pet rock.

Why exactly are you waiting?? If they guy did the right thing, you wouldn't be asking our opinion. You know what to do, make the call.

The opinion I was looking for was, do you think for a second that he didn't know he hit me or could this have been an honest mistake? His car shakes, the noise sounds like Godzilla from one of those old Japanese movies.

He 100% knew he hit you or he would have NEVER moved to another spot. And now he's being a scumbag. I don't know the man, but do the right thing. We ALL screw up now and then; it's how you handle your screw ups that is the measure of the man.

It's looks like you are in need of my Uncle Vito to fix this. However, if I do this for you, know that a favor in return will be required. Your call.

Seriously, dime him out immediately. Let the authorities determine if he did or did not know that he rammed you and ran.

I'm always about the benefit of the doubt in reasonable scenarios. But there is no way this guy did not know he hit your car. He just didn't want to pay. There is no integrity involved with this dude, he's just cheap. Probably does cancer treatments on 15 Y/O dogs too.

This is how I see it -- If I hit you I would have left a note, and likely texted the shuttle guys to figure out how to get your # .

But if you were hitting me up for 1k after my insurance paid for your body work I would tell you to fuck off.

In this scenario, 1k seems like a totally reasonable asshole tax for someone who tried to hit and run.

I wasn't even looking to screw the guy out of $870.00 or whatever it was. If I went to sell my car today (Was never on Carfax prior to this incident), I'd get the current value minus the diminished value. THis guy asked me, "Are you going to sell it today?", after I requested the cash.

He inconvenienced me for a good two weeks without MY car.

Anyway, if you have a boat, get yourself a camera. I'm not sure if I'm going to take the time trying to track this guy down for the cash.

You're probably right! lol.

Just sent this to him:

Dear Bob,

To calculate the diminished value of my vehicle, I used the '17c formula'. You can Google that for more information.

As of Friday, June 21, 2024, the Kelley Blue Book (KBB) value of my car was estimated to be between $19,123 and $21,598, resulting in an average value of $20,360.50.

For further information regarding the insurance claim, you may contact your insurance carrier directly. I believe I have already dealt with sufficient inconvenience due to this incident.

It is essential to note that this situation is a direct consequence of your actions, and I seek appropriate compensation for the time and damages incurred (I was without my car for two weeks). Given our mutual acquaintances, I chose not to file a hit-and-run police report with the Pennsylvania State Police.

I request that you send the previously mentioned amount in cash. I prefer to handle this matter through email or text message to ensure all communication is documented.

Upon your agreement to cover the damages, which amount to less than $1,000, I will remove the YouTube video related to this incident and, if requested, sign a waiver releasing you from any further liability regarding this matter.

Sincerely,...

Still trying to get the diminished car value from him or his insurance company. He's refusing to pay and his insurance carrier, NJM, is making me jump through hoops. At this point, I think I'm going to have to take it as a loss and just make sure that people know who this guy really is.

IMHO: Jump through the hoops with his insurance company.
If he bundles his insurance, there could be consequences with his homeowners, and umbrella policy rates for up to five years.
Even if his auto policy has accident forgiveness, the underwriters of umbrella policies are more draconian.
Over the long term, he might end up paying more than if he settled it your way.

You should have reported it to police as a hit and run right away and show the video and any other photos you may have taken.

The parties met several weeks after the incident at McDonalds, and exchanged insurance information apparently. Up to that point, Cabarle was ok with the vet and both parties were mutually satisfied.

But then, as the parties were leaving, Doctor Dog asked Cabarle to wait for minute while he proceeded to the register, and bought a small coffee.

When Doctor Dog returned, he gave Cabarle the coffee and said, “for all your inconvenience.”

If you want my opinion, you should be happy with the small coffee.
